Honestly 150k isn’t terrible as much hate as the older EJ engines get. Hope my FA20 lasts a long time.
The old ones lowered with the sti engine are really cool. FXTIs are what some call them. I am a fan of the 2020 Outback XT, 6.1 seconds 0-60 in a big wagon isn’t too shabby.

Honestly they should go the turbo V6 route for the Tundra, but then again, Toyota’s engines are underwhelming until you get to the Lexus 5.0.

I would kinda like to see a turbo 4 Tacoma, but I think if they actually did so it would be nothing special. Out of all the 2.0 turbo 4 cylinder cars I’ve driven, the Lexus had the least impressive engine. BMW’s B48 makes it look pathetic. (They should take a page out of the Supra playbook and just drop a BMW engine in the next Tacoma.)

Ha, you'll see a hybrid battery pack before nitrous.

Chances are that is exactly what is gonna be in the Tundra. Ram beat them to the punch with a mild hybrid truck so Toyota can’t even keep up at their own game.

You’ll need this E5B0567D-55E8-40D4-8F88-8C62F82AFA13.jpgfor the panties thrown at your truck as you drive by

They’re men’s panties though. 9 out of 10 women understand that turbos on a gasoline engine exist for performance, and don’t see the logic in doing this for a light utility truck whose sole legendary standing is based on reliability, and 9 out of 10 guys measure a vehicles worth by how fast it goes.

I would rather have an EcoBoost over a BMW turbo in a midsize truck.

True, both Ford and BMW know more about performance engines than Toyota.

Hopefully they will trickle down the tech from the new LS500 twin turbo V6 and the Tundra will get that 3.4. (The Tundra did share the 4.6 engine platform with the Lexus so it seems likely to me.)

The motor was fine. It's just all the accessory stuff that got roasted to death, and they weren't cheap to fix.
When I sold it at 175k, cylinders still had good compression, and the turbo still blew full boost. Oil consumption was up for 0.5 quarter per 4k miles to 1 quart. Blackstone oil test came back with below average wear metals for mileage. Not awful, all things considered, but the motor was stock and I didn't beat it like a rented mule.

Turbos are a lot of fun. I loved my WRX. But they aren't what I would consider reliable long term (150k+ miles).

Oh I cant wait for this forum to really get into the blow off valve mods so that the next gen tacoma can make a cool hiss sound when letting off the gas. Totally doesn't annoy me when the neighbors Mustang does that at the stoplight. Its like hes trying to attract a mate or something.

Toyota engines are fine they just stick us with vanilla options. Tbh I think a lot of Toyota buyers do not care anyways.

I like vehicles that are cheap and easy to work on. Power is way at the back as far as priorities. I also keep vehicles a long time. All of this adds up to turbos being maximum do not want for me.

    Hopefully they keep around a n/a v6.

turbos today are extremely reliable (depending upon packaging, use and application). 3.5 ecoboosts are a great example, everyday use in a passenger car/suv application they work awesome. take the same motor and put it into a police car( long idle times, code runs and abuse like youve never seen) and theyll blow oil seals and ruin catalytic convertors almost every 30,000 miles on the dot

Like the chopped exhaust, it's a mating call used by guys named Zack who wear Five Finger Death Punch flat-bill hats, catcall women in public, and have anger management issues. They are woefully mistaken in thinking that their battered hawkeye WRXs will ever attract women, but they never learn.
