I find that my Ti frame rides much better than any aluminum hardtail I've been on. It's like steel without the weight penalty.

I have a Tallboy2 Carbon also. I got home from a mostly fireroad ride yesterday (trying to avoid crowded singletrack for social distancing) and noticed that I had both front and rear locked out. I guess that’s my budget hardtail. Two bikes for the price of one.

Decided to change up the Singlespeed and make it a tad more playful. Went from a 100mm Reba RL 32 to a 130mm X-Fusion Trace 34. Hopefully it stays dry over night so I can get some dirt therapy in the morning.

I'm looking to get into mountain biking and am looking for some recommendations. I want a hard tail and have a budget of $500-$1000, but would like to keep it lower if possible. I've checked out a couple of my local bike shops a couple months ago. I've looked at the specialized rockhopper and the trek marlin line of bikes in person. I'm leaning more towards the marlin 6 because of its price. After some more research, it looks like the vitus nucleus maybe a better buy.

I just picked up a hardtail norco fluid 4. Its my first "mountain bike" I didn't want to break the bank or get too invest that i didn't like the sport.

I think its all depends how you wanna ride tbh. just ask tons of question! watch bunch of videos!

That bike does everything except big hit DH!

I put a Cane Creek DB Inline Air on mine after the Fox blew out and it transformed the bike. It was better on the harder impact, deeper in the travel and on small bump compliance. It was like a new bike.

If you can, I’d wait till this Covid lockdown mess is over. There will be some good bikes up for sale from the non-essential crowd that decided to start riding, (At least in my area) but won’t have the time for it when they go back to work. Descent used hardtails are normally out there from people upgrading to full squish after their 1st hardtail.

I left the Tacoma at home and went on a quick bike ride that ended up being 39 miles to a beach the next town over.

Before I bought my stumpjumper last month, I was looking at both specialized and Trek.

Based on my brief observation of their hardtails, the specialized seemed to be a little better quality. The cliche answer is to take them both for a spin around the store. (I think the one I rode was a Chisel but that’s over 1k)

In my case it’s the rider who doesn’t do big hit DH. Five years old this summer, and with a bit of maintenance (especially linkage)and one drivetrain upgrade this TB2 is holding up amazingly well. I don’t do a great job of tracking every ride but it’s got at least 5K miles on it, and I ride year-round so it’s seen it’s share of mud and rain. I suspect the shock is shot though, and the Recon fork isn’t much better. But who needs suspension?

I have a Dakine tailgate pad that stops so high up on the gate that the tire of my 29er rests on the paint. What size/company are y’all running for your tailgate pads?

SC will send you replacement pivot bearings free. I ordered a spare set of vpp links and pivot hardware and would swap in freshly built vpp links and rebuild the worn set during it's down time. I changed them out about every 1k miles after developing a creak/pop sound and finding a stuck bearing. Probably overkill but never had that problem again.

The newest fox 34 with the grip 2 damper sounds like the perfect fork for 100-130 stuff if you're looking to replace that rekon.

With suspension forks and the slacked out geometry, I don't think I could tell what material I was riding even on pavement.
