In general since he derped his whole truck. But your experience makes me think it wont hold up on my truck.

Ah I knew it, forgot we both made the calendar this year from the same spot on Potts lol. The Potts pic looks so different from your avatar but the name sounded familiar. Jelly man, how much more/better wheeling is out there compared to VA? Im so sick of needing to dedicate 3-4 days for a trip just because it takes me 5+ hours to get to decent shit (besides the offroad parks obviously).

holds up great, even off-road! Check out the thread I made:
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/plasti-dip-full-truck-dip-thread.362577/

It held up for about 5 years before I decided to re-dip it. Mainly because I didn't use the appropriate cleaning products and did a couple of crappy jobs touching it up.

How many tight trails are you running though? Like branches scraping the sides of the truck constantly? It's pretty common for my local spots to do heavy pinstriping.

I have gone through several tight trails like that, and it does sort of "scuff" the dip, but it doesn't tear at all like you would think, as long as you aren't driving through thorns that are really pushing into the body panels or something lol.

    @cynicalrider

I actually smacked a tree coming up a trail and this is the only thing that happened. The bedside got dented, too, but very little of the dip tore at all, and it was easy enough to fix.

Really? Wow I wouldn't have expected it to hold up well against brush and stuff. That's pretty awesome to hear. I get what you're saying, a hard branch or something that will actually pinstripe your real paint will also affect the plastidip. Very cool that it even held up over multiple years for ya. I think it looks super clean. Love that final color and tone

FWIW I was pretty good about using Turtle wax spray wax after a wash, but now I'm actually going to use the proper product (Dip Coat), it makes the plastidip much slicker so it reduces pinstriping and fading (hopefully the Dip Coat works even better)

Good to know. My paint isn't as pretty as it used to be and repainting it seems like a waste of time considering the abuse I put it through lol

if you go with a fairly standard color, I would imagine touch ups would be very easy. I tried to use the rattle can version of my last color, which was anthracite grey, and it didn't match at all. I ended up having to use what was left in my last gallon and putting into one of those little Preval sprayers to do touch ups, which worked better as long as you use the right thinners and stuff. A couple of times I used too much thinner and it looked a lot darker. You can tell where that happened on the hood in the pic below, plus the hood was faded pretty badly by then. I imagine the dip will last much longer now since I park in the garage and the previous dip job was when my truck sat outside most of the time.

I think the total cost of a plastidip job (the first time around, including purchasing the DYC spray gun) was about $600. That's the cost for everything. 4 gallons, spray gun, some after-care products, plenty of tape and plastic and other masking products, as well as many cans of black plastidip that I bought at home depot (I used damn near 8 cans to do the flares). I also wait for DYC to have a 20% off sale before I buy anything.

Some of my friends are asking me to do theirs next lol

Assuming one had all the supplies at hand, for a first timer that's decently versed in most crap, how many days would you recommend they set aside for the project, start to finish?

Derp is supposed to be able to come off, bedliner is not.
One should definitely factor this in when figuring out which route they go

I would say 3-4 days of a few hours per day. If you wanted to work non-stop, you could probably get it done in 2 days.

Day 1: wash the shit out of the truck. That's it.
Day 2: Spent a couple hours masking off the windows and stuff. Thankfully with dip, you don't have to mask it off exactly right as it will pull right off most weather stripping and stuff, save for the occasional need for an xacto knife where the dip will bridge between weather stripping and the body. You can also try to tape it off exactly right and then pull it up when the dip is still wet, if bridging is a concern.
Day 3: Finished masking and then sprayed with Pre-Dip spray.
Day 4: Laid down the coats (I had to order another gallon of the final color, so I had to wait almost a week after this. 3 gallons of final color recommended). You only need to wait about 30 minutes between coats. Stuff dries hella fast. Then I pulled the tape off.
Day 5: Spray down the truck with Dip Coat, dipped the flares and reattached and put Dip Coat on those too.

This was me spending basically half days working on it, so if you did it all day, 2-3 days max. I just preferred not to rush it. My work tends to get worse as I get tired and annoyed lol

I've done bronze on a couple different types of stock wheels, and I love the colour. But playing with these, and really getting sick of dark colours, I tried the white, and damn, do I love them. I need to get some classic blue and red pinstripes on them too.
