What if I’d be happy if the price stayed flat forever, or went up and down like many stocks do, and I just get the 3.5% dividend?

Hypothetical of course, but exactly what I like.

Pretty sure we were talking about theaters recently...Actually, I think I may have brought it up at least once? As terrible as AMC is doing with their pending bankruptcy, this is a pretty bold move.

I know it is a video game website, but I wonder if this is leading to the eventual downfall of the theater? I know the article states that big blockbusters are great money makers in the theater, but others maybe not?

 

Sure. And it makes sense as long as the dividend outperforms any losses which it almost certainly will over time. Still has even less to do with what you paid for it though.

 

Kind of, but if you can scoop up a good company that’s yielding high because the price fell, that’s a good investment. I might be just proving your point now though.

LOL same as Taxi drivers being so grumpy about Uber. They didn't adapt to the times, they didn't follow customer demand, and when it's clear the customer wants and is drawn to something else, they get all huffy puffy and grumpy and throw a temper tantrum.

 

I would rather pay 30 bucks to watch a movie at home than go to the movies. It sooo expensive to go, get a drink and small snack for 2.

Oil is up pre-market today.

 

There's one near my hometown that:

1. Installed leather reclining seats.
2. Added a bar, and you can take the drinks out of the bar into the theatre.....How they thought that was a good idea with teenagers is beyond me.

Last time my wife and I went to the movies, we bought tix (15 ea ballpark), 2 drinks (8 bucks each?) and that was it - or, I spend 15$/month for "cable" anyway, spend 6 bucks for a 6 pack of tall boys (gansett!), have a bathroom down the hall, etc etc.

Yeah, it's a dated model from pre-streaming times, and them being a toddler about Universal using alternatives, especially during the whole COVID mess (Universal is just supposed to wait on the beck and whim of AMC maybe eventually reopening in time??), PLUS with parents with kids at home during this whole thing...... ZERO sympathy for AMC on this one.

It should have dropped pre-market. Expected GDP loss was 3.5%. Actual was 4.8%. The Fed will release a statement at 2PM EST. That could have a huge impact as well.
