Yes I saw that, but that doesn't really look like a permanent solution. Last thing you need is for that steel click on nut to be shaving away the pillar metal every time you grab your handle to support yourself in and out.

Always a potential. I was more leaning to the Rivnut option that was also mentioned.

ETA: Or, "super torque" the clip nut to insure it won't pivot, lol.

Hopefully we both are wrong and @KTJO 4x4 has a better designed from the manufacturer.

Why do you think this will happen? The clip nut shouldn't rotate on the A-pillar flange once the bolt is tightened.

I have used this type of clip nut a lot, they are very good for steady applications. I don't believe this is going to work for the grab handle as you are going to constantly be pulling on it daily, this clip nut is not designed for that purpose, otherwise Toyota would have included/manufacturer this type of clips on both driver/passenger pillars. This clip will be subjectable to open up with the constant pulling on the handle etc.

I hear ya, LOL. At least not for me. I had a 4Runner prior to my Tacoma and used that driver handle every single day. That would have been my very FIRST mod to the truck if the part was a available for it.

I’ll bet there are a number of people doing it for that reason, but I suspect the number that intend to use it is much higher than 2.66%.

    UPDATE:

The Grab Handle has been SHIPPED! Like I have stated above, once I receive I will test fit it and as long as everything is good to go I will give the green light to go ahead for production!

I would like to make an announcement for the grab handle because I have been getting an abundance of Entry Forms on when the Grab Handle will be shipped and inquiries on updates for the Grab Handle. This is the best place to receive the updates. When I get an update, I ALWAYS come here to post the updates with the progress. It is the easiest way to reach everyone all at once. So that I can hopefully cut down on all of the Entry Forms with the same exact questions regarding this purchase, please pay attention to all of the detail prior to purchasing. You are PRE-ORDERING the DRIVER SIDE GRAB HANDLE that is in production. I will be receiving the 3D testing model here soon that in hopes should be the final test before I give the green light. What does that mean? Once I give them the green light, my vendors will reach out to Toyota of China and inform them that we are ready to make the official mold of the OEM DRIVER SIDE GRAB HANDLE and they will make 1000 HANDLES. This will take roughly a month to a month and a half. Once this is done. They will put all of them on a ship and ship these boxes to me. That process takes 20-25 days give or take. I will be waiting anxiously for their arrival. Once they arrive, I will be ready to ship them out to all of you. I will contact each and everyone of you and let you know about shipping and/or double check that your shipping address is good to go. I know that some have changed. We will double check that we have everyone's information correct. I will ship these out as quick as possible. That is how this is going to go. Please, if you are going to place an order, save this thread and come back here to check for updates. If I haven't posted an update on here, then I don't have an update. I promise to notify all of you as soon as I have something. I am just as anxious as all of you. Trust me!! :bananadance:

I’m obviously not an engineer but when you tighten the bolt with these clip nuts as it turns the clip nut will rest against the edge of the bracket which I’d think keep any pivoting from happening. I guess you could even dab some blue thread locker to prevent any chance of loosening. I’d think if there were any chance of pulling out it would be the bracket bending. I guess I look at these clip nuts similar or not much different than using a nut/bolt (which I’d rather not use). I don’t think I’d like to use a riv nut either because of the potential for improper install or pullout or spin (there are certain riv nuts that would help those situations though) and it’s not like the bracket can just be replaced (I’m assuming) if something went wrong on install or failure down the road. These clip nuts on the other hand can easily be replace if it was needed. It’s not like we can get a nut welded to the bracket either… I’m just not sure of any other solution that would be dummy proof and easily replaceable

Have to use the clip nut with actual threads on the backside. Not a Tinnerman nut.

The grab handle is very helpful in tight spaces, where you can only open the door to the first detent. It's also good on the trail, where you might leave the engine running while getting in/out (i.e. steering wheel not locked to use as a handle). I was planning on drilling two holes in the A-pillar trim and installing an FJ or early Land Cruiser grab handle, until I saw this thread.
    This.

Good things worth waiting for ?? Kinda hard when I'm enjoying the 2nd gen grab handle, but switching to 3rd soon. Suppose I'll make it to the fall :)
