I'm posting this here too.. more eyes and more idea on a possible fix is what I am hoping

Well... They say all good things must come to an end.. or something stupid like that.
I don't know whether to laugh or cry at this point.

I put a clear coat on the doors today after waiting 48 hours like the directions said.. same brand of paint and clear coat. I don't know what went wrong but it bubbled the paint. And now that the rivets are in it's nearly impossible to try and fix. There's just no way I have the motivation to redo this massive project.

If anyone has any ideas.. I'm all ears. I've got a ton of time and money in this project that I some how ruined within minutes.

This really sucks it was looking great. Was the clear you shot designed for vinyl wrap?

That wasn't a vinyl wrap... That was black paint. I spent nearly six hours the other day cutting the stencils for it. Rust-Oleum Satin Black paint.. Rust-Oleum Satin clear... And only one door had the reaction.

not sure on fixing it, either how to or if you really should... In know it was not the look you was probably wanting, but it now has that "aged and distressed look" to it. maybe try and flash rust the what appears to be the bare metal area? or some paint to replicate that look to get that "patina" you get from surface rust.

    something like this..

id let it cure at least 1 week depending on humidity then light sand with some 1000 grit sand paper then spray again.

Haha I can't flash rust it... It's stainless steel

Sanding really isn't an option since I put all the rivets in yesterday.. and those too are stainless steel so drilling them out is 10 times harder than the aluminum ones.

I really do appreciate the ideas.. there's not an easy solution to this since it was a hand cut stencil and the stainless steel was painted then riveted prior to closing it.

The sanding shouldnt affect the rivets. Its basically to flatten out the spray coat. Just weird it would delaminate it it like that

Most of the time when this happens is because the paint under the clear was not completely dry before the clear was applied. Put it in a warm area in the house not in direct sunlight and let it sit

That's where I'm confused... I painted both doors at the same time.. let them dry the same amount of time 48 hours is what the clear coat can said . And cleared them at the same time.. only one door is like this.. the other one is fine

The entire rig can't be more than 159' long, at most. Nice job!
