Transfer case or transmission leak

Seems like i found some seepage on my transfer case where it meets the transmission while under my truck today. 2018 with 9000kms on the clock. Appointment with Toyota set for Tuesday afternoon, any one else have a similar issue?

 

Also, the truck just had it's 8000km (5000miles) check up and oil change done at the dealer on April 16, no mention of any leaks or issues.

 

That stinks! I’d get that checked out ASAP! I hope they get it remedied quickly.

 

If it doesn’t drip on the floor it’s not a leak.. lol that’s what I got told once.. it’s considered seepage..it still ended up getting fixed

There are a couple guys in this Thread that had Transfer Case Leaks.

 

Thanks, from the photos and info in that thread it seems like most of those leaks are at the rear of the transfer case and not up front where it meets the transmission.

 

Yep. They replaced the transfer case seals under warranty

 

How many kilometers on your truck when you found the leak? Any issues since having the seals replaced?

 

Probably had about 45,000km when I went to fluid film it. The leak wasnt there the season before. And no more leak after about another 15,000 km

 

Update:
Just got back from the service department. Parts are on order and should be here in 5 days or so. Tech also noticed my loud leaf springs and is going to fix that as well.

I believe he ordered the seals for both transmission and transfer case, not sure though. I can post part numbers when the work is done if anyone is interested.

 

GOOD LUCK, getting the springs (particularly the bushings for the cab mount) in in 5 days. most are waiting 3-4 weeks

 

I was sitting with the service and parts manager when he was looking it up on his computer in his office, didn't mention that. As long as it gets done eventually I will be happy though.

Truck went in yesterday to get the leak and squeaky leaf springs taken care of. They put 80w-90 gear oil in my transfer case, told them this was the wrong fluid and not OK with me.
Driving around in a Corolla for another day until they get the proper 75w fluid in stock.

 

My 2019 was leaking from the seal between transfer case and tranny. Seal was replaced by deale. Leak persisted and now a new transmission is getting installed. I’ve got 5600 miles on it.

 

Hope you get that sorted out soon, mine has been leak free since the seal was replaced about 23000kms ago.

Figured I’d add to the thread even though it’s old since I was searching on Google for similar issues.

Was under the truck last night when I noticed seepage where the transfer case pairs up to the rear of the transmission. I assume the design is similar to my old first gen where this is intended to be a dry cavity under normal conditions. There should be an output/input shaft seal on the transmission/tcase, respectively. Why oil made it past these seals I’m not sure. Coincidence that I noticed this after doing some trails for an hour?

I cleaned mine up with brake clean and will periodically check for more. I should have taken pictures and thought more about contacting the dealer. Good to know some dealers have been receptive about replacing seals and/or monitoring leaks.

For what it’s worth: 2016 TRDOR DCSB 6speed manual with about 55k miles.
