I’m still an Intel apologist, maybe my next build I’ll go AMD haha. They’ve definitely gotten a lot lot better with Threadripper.

I ran liquid on my Wolfdale, back when you bought parts individually and bent your own tubes with a heatgun and whatnot.

Now I just run a closed loop setup on my CPU.

They make it so easy now with the kits they offer, not to mention bolt on kits for GPU's as well.

A lot of cases are setup to accept a reservoir, radiator, etc.

Even on my closed loop, my CPU doesn't choke and I've got my 6770k (5yr old processor) still running new games like COD on max with every setting on.

4K is much more demanding though and I haven't tried that.

I'd find running multiple fans to be louder; the heat transfers pretty quickly through the radiators.

Just waiting on a few more parts then I’m gonna do the fuel pump in my truck. Hopefully that’s the source of the skipping issue. I don’t hear the pump come on with the key. Have to wait til the weekend cause we’ve got rain til Friday. I don’t have any codes for skipping so thinking it’s not electrical so... once fuel pump is in I’ll give an update on the skipping problem

Picking out components is the best part!

Noctua fans are great for that beige or off-white setup

On our Tacomas the fuel pump doesn't kick on when key is turned to on, like a lot of other vehicles do.
What were the consistent things you noticed when it skipped? For example, it skipped always around 2100 rpm, etc. What did you notice about the skip and what other things have you noticed?

The VQ30, while pretty unknown, is a great zippy engine in that car. Most people have no idea there ever was a 3L VQ engine, cause well it was pretty much a Maxima only option.

Yes it was. That was my first taste of Maxima. Lot more pep than I was expecting.

The real brains for the new faster x86 architecture we know today originally worked for DEC and designed the Alpha processor. Intel stole the design and introduced the Pentium family of processor. DEC sued Intel and won a settlement over the patent infringement. After the settlement, the original Alpha chip designers went to work for AMD and designed an improved bus architecture and then the AMD64 family or processors. Intel invested in a 64bit processor to replace the X86 and other RISC processors named the Itanium. The Itanium really never took off. Begrudgingly Intel adopted the X86 64 design to keep from losing valuable server market share. The Itanium officially died in January of 2019.

The people at Microsoft that developed Windows NT (and changed the game for Windows server) followed a guy named Dave Cutler from DEC. These were all DEC VMS people from back in Massachusetts. Needless to say the former DEC people at AMD and Microsoft worked very closely in the days of developing software for the 64 bit x86. DEC released its first 64 bit processor in 1994.
