This. First of all, if an alien showed up and rated a dodge that high, that alien is an automatic idiot. Because I know FOR A FACT that alien doesn’t have a farm with a bunch of cows he needs to haul, or a boat he needs to tow. That alien just wants a big ass truck to brag about to his pussy friends. Second, thats assuming the alien isn’t a silicon based life form that uses electrical stimulus to engage physical things. You can’t operate a vehicle like that. That’s just crazy. IT MIGHT NOT EVEN HAVE HANDS

That is the problems with legends imo.

As time moves on, the truth is obscured by the telling and re-telling of the story.

Yeah, first gens were good trucks, but not as good as the Hilux that preceded them, according to the “legend”.

Last time I checked, my local Toyota dealership wasn’t selling any brand new 1st gens though.

When it’s time to buy something new, you have to choose what you think is best from what’s available at that time.

In 2016, the 3rd gen Tacoma was the best midsized truck available imo.

    So far so good.

OK, so to be clear, you did check with dealers to see if they are still selling brand new 1st gens? Sounds a bit misinformed, but OK.

I had a Subaru Outback a couple of cars ago. Stupid little problems from day 1, and they never went away. And stuff like a spontaneously cracking windshield (probably temerature related). Every time I told someone I had a Subaru, or brought it to a mechanic, they'd tell me how great Subarus are. Not mine. Sadly, it happens.

    Lol.

When I needed a new truck, I checked what the inventory was at the local Toyota dealership- they had only one on the lot and it checked off all the boxes of what I was looking for. Took it for a test drive, liked it and worked out a decent price.

I was new to Toyota, and didn’t know that the 2016 was a brand new generation.

    Then I joined TacomaWorld.

Glad I didn’t log on to TW until after I made the purchase, since it’s been a very solid truck so far, despite some of the reports to the contrary...

Well, back to the subject. My 2017 has had the annoying trans issue and it has a dash rattle which comes and goes that Toyota told me was my coin holder which by the way has no change in it. My son has a 2019 and according to him it has NO issues!

What annoying transmission issue? It's a truck ... Don't drive it like a race car and it'll be fine. Use ECT if you're wanting to drive hard, pull hills etc.

I thought this thread subject was Consumer Reports and the 2018 model Tacoma...

How annoying are the trans issue and dash rattle?

The trans issue is probably (but not definitely) just the way it was designed to operate.

The dash rattle might involve tearing the dash apart to resolve, and that might open the door for other unintended consequences.

If you are really unhappy, have you considered trading it in for something else? I know this is a foreign concept.

Searching and asking in other threads might help you understand/ resolve either of these issues.

Hope it works out for you whatever route you choose.

It's gotten to the point where you are better off reading no Reviews and simply going for some test drives. If you really like a car look into seeing if its Junk or not. To be fair Jeep is at the bottom of the list and my 2015 Wrangler and 2016 Wrangler 4 Door were flawless and ran perfectly. Every Jeep Wrangler owner I know hasn't ever had a single problem except with aftermarket parts. Fortunately I've always bought what I liked and only regretted it when buying a Chevy or GMC.

Consumer reports is full of shit: They told me not to buy my 07 VW Touareg. They said it was a maintenance nightmare. I drove the damn thing for 13 years (174K miles) before I put it over a bank and rolled it. The only thing I replaced at my cost beyond normal consumables (brakes/oil/grease/filters) was the timing chain at 135K. Fucking fantastic vehicle. Now they tell me not to drive a Taco? I totally agree the the statement made earlier ..... I trust Consumer Reports like I trust CNN ...... nope.
