I stayed RW my whole career. I'll looked into retiring in '09 and going FW, but wife found out how little commuter pilots made back then and vetoed that pretty quick. :angrygirl:

It worked out for the best though. We're happy in HSV and the pay is good compared to the cost of living.

Yeah. Seen that a few times in sketchy jungle runways in South America. They could land on a nickel. Take off they needed some help.

Have a brother in law that was a sewer pipe sailor. We got to tour his boat and after all was said and done, I was impressed with what I saw but working on that thing would be a no go at this station. I’ll take a rifle and a rucksack over that shit any day.

    I gotta ask...
    What is; “a sewerpipe sailor”?
I’m an x army guy from NZ, sooo never heard this term.
We used to teach the Navy part timers .50 cal drills, and that is as close as I ever got to the Navy back home...

A sailor who specializes in fixing issues with the plumbing on a Naval vessel?

Google just said that a “sewer pipe sailor” is a med tech who performs the duties of “pecker checker.”

    Am I close?

Oh, shit, literally... damn, I have done work on a Taiwanese fishing vessel. In the bilge doing a gearbox change out after trying to fix it in place and that was probably the worst place I have ever worked. Those folks defecate in their bilge and would also dump their kitchen waste into the same space and then pump out as they leave port. I dropped a Snap-On 1/2” ratchet and two Snap-On screw drivers into that freaking bilge. Got a rash from that job that took months to go away. The doc couldn’t work out what it was, so kept change in the meds until it went away. I got my tools back, but yeah, never worked on any Asian vessels after that....
The smell and slime on everything with one light bulb in the space, is just something I will never forget...
