I did a HALO jump in Yuma one time and got to take off in a C-130 with those strapped on. Along with a giant fuel bladder in the hold. It was awesome and terrifying all at the same time.

I agree floodedkiwi with you question. There’s no such rating, sounds anecdotal (i.e. fictional). What “boat” did you tour? CV, FFG, SSBN....???

    Horseshoe around me zoomies...

You’re gonna have to keep up with the runnin’ and jumpin’ type milspeak. We don’t talk Burger King, dorm rooms, soft serve ice cream, layover deployment, or cubicle here.

Thanks for clarifying, never heard the term “sewer pipe sailor”. I prefer “Silent Service” but appreciate the inter service rivalry and our ability to trade respectful insults among those serving or those that have their DD214’s.

Talking shit to or about our family of bro’s and sisters makes the military family unique.

Change of subject, I’m not sure if our medical community has the same embedded esprit de corp (the capacity to simultaneously insult and respect your brothers and sisters) but they have become the new wave of champions and protectors in our new world. I think our military community has the ability to be a bigger part of the Bravo Zulu’s and shot outs not only to the Doctors and Corpsman but to the civilian Drs and Nurses. Thoughts?

The nurses I know are capable of talking shit, not so sure about the doctor types. That may be due to the finishing school effect that plagues the shinies in our ranks.

Just like service academy grads. Put that ring on them, and they become the world's largest douchnozzles.

Kind of a funny story - I was a shop NCOIC in 2000 running a team of 10 system admins maintaining a small server network for Fairchild AFB. We got a new girl in (our first in a very sausage-heavy workcenter) and I had many talks with the team to be "more professional." Basically like telling a bunch of hound dogs to stop licking their balls in front of company. I believe the words I used were "don't act like us in front of real people." A few weeks go by, she begins her upgrade training (fresh out of technical school - basically an idiot) and starts working jobs with the team learning how the network works. We get to know her, she gets to know us, we relax, and ball-busting resumes. Life and the mission goes on.

THE FOLLOWING WAS RELAYED TO ME AFTER THE FACT:

After about a month I'm back to busting on everyone...except her. It's not that I don't like her (we are actually still friends today), but more that I didn't know her well enough to be able to get in any "good ones" that could also not get in trouble with social actions. At some point she asks another team member "how come SSgt (CaptAmerica) busts on you guys but not me?" The person she asked laid it out pretty much as described: "we bust on people we like. He probably isn't busting on you because he doesn't know you well enough yet since you're still new and we've all been together for almost a year." This was true. She accepted that response happily and moved on. Every so often I'd get some questions on the side - she was trying to get to know me so that I would know her well enough to bust on her like the rest of the team. They're so cute when they're young and haven't had their first EPR yet.

Moving the story forward, we had a project to prepare a couple of racks for new equipment. The job was getting the old equipment out without taking anyone down. She and two other more experienced sysads were assigned the task. While they were working, she forgot the cardinal rule of server maintenance - "Is anyone using this right now?" She also forgot the second cardinal rule - "the power switch is the last resort." So in a fit of energetic efficiency she hard powered off two servers that were in use. No graceful shutdown, no coordination, no warning - straight to off. Uh oh.

Needless to say I lost my shit. The tirade that ensued would make @Pchop proud. I used them all, especially the nasty ones. At the point I thought she was going to cry, I cut it off. Harsh orders were given, and I left the floor to go make a lot of apologetic phone calls starting with my superintendent, flight commander, and squadron commander, knowing that they were getting their asses chewed by Base Operations and one of the flying squadrons.

What got back to me was that she thought I finally liked her because I used the same words I normally use when busting balls. Her exact words to her team mates was "aw, he finally likes me!" when in fact I was 100% certain that (at that moment) she was a fucking idiot.

I made some changes in "good cursing" and "bad cursing" after that to avoid future confusion, and I made sure to include her in the firing line. Team integrity and all that. Assholes.

Some positive things came out of that episode that we all carried with us.

Asshole - a term of endearment
    Mother-fucking pig-brained asshole - not
Bitch - a term of great respect
Son of a bitch - not
Ass clown - a term of great disrespect
Cunt - returned to the lexicon (with approval) because she used it all the time on us. Adopted the Aussie definition - a good friend
Fuck face - compliment of the highest regard
Retard - diss of the lowest regard
702 - an insult that only old-school (pre-1992) USAF personnel would get
351 - an escalation of 702 that applied to the worst 702s
AGE-bait - an insult of intelligence, implying that someone's only worth would be doing jobs that no one else wanted

It was probably pretty close, the internet was turned off on an AFB. I can only imagine how bad the withdrawals were for them.
