I’ve got them up to painting half of what’s necessary. It’s such bs that they won’t own up to it but that’s how they all are imho.

It’s not just 3rd gens.. I bought an 09 MGM bran new and it was shit. Iv read a lot about Toyota’s shit metallic paints, this is first Iv heard of white tho.. Pebbles from AT tires would knock off dime size chunks of paint off the rockers it got so bad I had to linex the bottom 6in of the rockers.. My dumb ass went and bought a 19 Midnight Black metallic and I’m praying for better results, so far so good.. I drive a 96 f-250 4x4 daily as my work truck.. it’s a flat bed on 35s and it kicks up a ton of shit driving dirt roads and job sites daily and I don’t baby it or worry about anything. know what.. almost 25year old factory metallic green paint and it’s tough as nails, takes a lot to chip it. The clear is just now starting to fail in small areas.. I did notice that on my 09 when the paint would flake off in chips, whatever the coating underneath had a slight shine to it. And the chips were very cleanly chipped like the pics in this thread.. drove me nuts

I have a white 2012 TRD Sport, and over the past year I've had the exact same problem happen, rear driver side and front passenger. I've owned the truck since new but seeing as its going on 8 years old I imagine I am SOL.

My 2017 Tacoma is having the same issues with the paint flaking off, it has 60,000 miles on it. I took it to dealer where I bought brand new and they pretty much told me to piss off and weren't covering it because my extended warranty didn't cover cosmetic issues, and I haven't contacted Toyota directly yet to if they can resolve the issue.image0.jpg

Washed it today and it flaked right off. Out of warranty. Going to the dealer hopefully this week to see if they’ll talk to corporate about covering

Substrate preparation is the most important step with application of the product behind it. But low quality paint with poor adhesion, low durability, low UV resistance, etc. is absolutely real.

In fact corner adhesion is one of the tests done by coating manufactures when formulating a product. And that is definitely an area where the paint really needs to flow and wet before it cures.

Another 2017 White Tacoma with 33K miles here with the same issue. Autonation Toyota of Cerritos said there's no current recall on it, and I'm two months out of warranty, so I'm out of luck. Voice your complaints with corporate here so they can know this is a widespread problem: 888-270-9371

I'm having the same issue. It just started a couple weeks ago but due to the current covid situation I don't want to even stop by the dealer. So, yes my white truck is peeling right behind the passenger rear door. Assembled in Mexico and bought the truck in December of 2016.

I went to my local Toyota dealers today and spoke with them about fixing the paint and they said there's no open recall. I'm just going to wait. As for the time being at least it's not rusting through.

    Hey

I have a 2017 super white TRD and literally exact same problem in the same place. Right rear window. Started coming off on the edges under the hood too. Dealer said
tough luck without corporate response on fixing the problem. If we can get enough people on this problem maybe we can get them to make some moves. There are alot
of people talking about same problem on other Toyotas as well. I love the truck, but for what I am paying these issues cant go on. Anyone want to start up a class action
or putting together occurrences for proof im all for it.

I agree we really need to do something about this. I've been getting lazy though lately in calling that one1-800 number that someone else provided. But I do need to get on the phone and complain. If anybody else does, count me in.

We can start compiling pictures and Vin# for evidence and compile it into 1 big document. I wouldnt mind reaching out to start a class action if
we had enough people that could support the claim. Im to cheap to be lazy on this lol

Same problem here, Toyota did not want to help because I am out of warranty 50k miles. Neither the dealership wanted to help. SMH very disappointed with Toyota customer service.

So the dealership didnt want to help me either initially. So i wrote the GM and the service director of the dealership an email.
They got Toyota involved after that and are taking care of it. I had to sweet talk them basically. I could send you the email so you could use and see how I got them to bite on it. wdlewis3@gmail.com

Wdlewis3 Any info you could provide would be great! Not a 3rd gen but the truck is only 5 years old and looks 20! My email is jmgraham941@gmail.com

This happened to me today on my 2011 Tacoma with color code 040 super white, I was driving on the highway in the rain and when I got home this was here with chips still stuck to the truck. The location is the passenger side window. I've taken really good care of this truck and wash it religiously. Its at 135k so I bet they won't do anything about it but just wanted to further everyone's case. Mine was made in Texas. One thing that I have noticed with this paint over the years is that is doesn't hold its shine as well or is as shiny as my other vehicles and it gets easily stained by sitting under a tree or having bird poop left on it more than a few days, even though I keep wax on it at all times. It is pretty frustrating. Must be the single clear coat and paint spray. I'm going to contact Toyota Corprate about it tomorrow and reference this feed I'll let you know where I get.
