Clutch Longevity?

Anyone have to replace clutch yet on 2nd Gen Taco? If so, how many miles at the time. What kind of driving, e.g. stop and go or no traffic highway?
I understand it is a matter of driving habits; however, kind of curious as to general clutch longevity on 2nd Gen. Tacos. Thanks.

 

Anyone? Or, how about those with high mileage on their 2nd gen. clutches?

 

I don't know about the 2nd gen however Toyota seems to put a heavy clutch in the Tacoma's. In my 97 I replaced the clutch at 120K because I just knew it had t be close but it still had about 25% wear left in it. I would have to say be ready to replace at about 75K but don't be surprised if you get 150K out of it if you are experienced at driving a stick. Again this depends on your habits and weather or not you tow. For me by the time I get to those miles I plan to install a 4.7 with the auto anyway.

 

not sure or 2nd gen but my firend's 86 has 300k on it with same motor and clutch.all he did was the timing belt.

Mine's much too young, but my 99 4runner had 280,000 km (180,000 miles) original clutch, etc.. Only timing belt replaced.

 

150,000 miles on my 99.... I beat the sh!t out of it tho!!!

 

2nd gens are known for random failures. some people have gone through 2 or 3 in less than 20k. Im still on my stock clutch, with a little over 41.5k miles, and a hell of a lot abuse. over 60 runs down the quarter mile, tons of burnouts and drifts.

on the other hand, some havent even made it past 5k miles before their stock clutch blew up on them, not just slippage.

 

Could be operater error too.... haha
