Got the bolt out no problem - just pop the the right side out and let it hang. However, there wasn't enough clearance around the OE housing to get the new part in. I've got about half of the part thickness in available clearance.

This has happened once before, it's probably a clump of sealant that is put in there in the factory. Can u send me a pic of the gap?

So I’m waiting for mine in the mail but figured might as well try remove that bolt... removed the tailgate and placed it painted side up in the bed. Put a nice thick blanket to protect from damage in case I slip or something drops.

Used a hammer and a small punch and hit the bolt about 12 times. Then I hit the metal bracket that the bolt is bolted to.
Went slow with a 3/8” socket/wrench and a pipe over. Came loose in about two minutes. Make sure to press hard into the bolt keeping the driver flush and points on the torx drive from slipping.
Did not use any heat and didn’t see any glue on the threads or anywhere.

now just need my anti theft device to arrive in the mail, paint and good to go.

Probably a stupid question, but if you have a hard tonneau and pop n' lock, I assume you don't need this?
Or is the tailgate still somehow at risk of being stolen even with those?

I have the oem remote lock and unlock for the tailgate installed plus this anti theft device. The oem key lock mechanism can easily be defeated with a screw driver just like any other door locks- they just punch em to get in. Once the lock is punch nothing really keeping them from stealing it....unless you have this bracket or the other locking device that covers the tailgate hinge

The number of people having issues removing the #T40 screw. Triggered the OCD in me. While waiting on mine to arrive. Armed with the knowledge you members contributed, a heavy hammer (3lb), 1 large dia. Center punch, long handled (25” ) 1/2” drive breaker bar and the #40 Torx tipped socket.
After removing the passenger’s side of the tailgate, letting it rest on a folded mover’s blanket.
Centering the punch on top of the screw. Using what I’d consider an average strike on the punch. I tagged it three times.
Enough to remove the paint in several spots of the screw head.
Next, using the long handled breaker bar w./ #40 Torx tip.
My left hand holding the tool’s handle. Right hand applied pressure towards the screw head.
I slowly applied weight downward, counterclockwise (left ) to loosen the screw.
Anticipating a lot of resistance. It loosened effortlessly!?!!
It was actually anticlimactic compared to what I had hyped myself into thinking. “That this is round one of a heavyweight match with Godzilla.” lol
Anyway - loosened it up 2 turns then quit.
Next on the list. I’m gonna buy myself a lottery ticket. lol
Cheers & stay safe / healthy.
    J.

Best wishes on your attempt. Getting straight line connections with the Torx socket & screw head and having extra leverage ( longer handle ) with aide you tremendously.
