that’s what I’m thinking also. Hopefully not too bad. I’m waiting to just service that when I get a new cassette.

I'm right there with you. Not a tree hugger, but I'm not about to go whaling for lamp oil either.

Revel and GG are really pretty promising with their carbon initiatives. Just the fact that they are made in North America means that at the very least, they are likely ISO 14001 compliant and held to OSHA or similar standards which are miles ahead of China, et al.

See my above reply to your first post. Def more efficient to recycle no doubt. But it's what is being recycled.

On the Duke Front, GO HOKIES!

I thought you were referencing Duke Energy for a sec, and that made me ill in my mouth for a sec. I had a futures and options class at VT taught by a former Duke Energy exec. That class was open note, open book and those tests damn near brought me to tears every time. She was ruthless in her test writing.

Cool, I must not have understood what you were saying when you said the recycling rate is "very low", that seems to contradict the actual facts.

In any case, we are not Duke fans, she only went there because they have the program in the US in that field. She would cheer for VT before Duke, her Gramps went there.

Def talking past each other a little. We as the USA have a great record of aluminum recycling. That's a great thing!

But I have a sneaking suspicion that the bike frames made in Taiwan aren't using US sourced ingot. And I would be curious to know how many bike frames end up in the revert yards period. I know how many frames I helped pull out of a river during a cleanup (1) and how many I watched get tossed into a crucible (0)

Here's my 2015 Intense Tracer 27.5. Love this thing! I'm sure it has been discussed before, but what are thought on the North Shore bike rack? I am considering a 4-pack. OR, is there a 'better' option for off-roading? I don't do major, heavy off-roading with bikes in the back, but do take some gnarly roads/trails to campsites, etc. Thoughts?

Just got my bike out of the shop after a tune-up. I took your advice and skipped the conversion...If I get serious about it again, I'll look into another bike. My LBS sells mostly Trek and Specialized. Not sure of my budget yet though.

    Thanks again man.

Those last two pics are from a Moab trip, but here are a couple shots from my home hill. Sorry for the photo dump, getting waaaaay too excited for bike season over here!

No worries! It's really interesting what you pick up in any industry, even as a finance guy in the front office. Just kinda gets my goat, esp on Pinkbike when carbon is vilified over aluminum. If you traced any product, from mfg of base materials to disposal, even the "green" stuff often isn't. Solar Panels and hybrid cars being the biggest decoys in my mind.

Also, from a production standpoint, Titanium is a fickle bitch to make. If you ever get an opportunity, the Timet plant in Henderson, NV is a cool place to tour. But you have to empty your pockets of everything before you go in. The metallic elements in ballpoint pens, and loose change can occlude to titanium alloy. The plant even has to use special light bulbs, because if a regular one breaks, the tungsten filament can also ruin a batch.

1up USA. It’s a tray hitch style rack vs the hanging approach. But they design and market the rack as offroad worthy. I love mine.

I'm a big fan of Alta racks for the shuttle style configuration because they are made down the street from me, and Ali purpose built his to be Moab rated. Plenty of IG content of him dumping his Ram off a ledge with 6 bikes on the back.

1Up makes a great tray style as well, but the lever arm effect of a 4 tray rack always makes me hesitate, esp if your driving style is "spirited"
