Does rear TSB apply to 2011 Tacos?

Hmmm when I looked earlier I swear there were only 3. Is that what they do? 3 stock and then they just add one? If so, works for me lol I was going to buy an AAL when I install 5100's up front.

 

I got it done on my 2011.

 

There are a number of other 2011 owners that still needed the TSB.

 

No, there is a 4 leaf pack they replace the 3 leaf one with. If you don't already have the yellow/blue bilstein shocks then you get those with the leafs and an alignment. The new leafpack will raise the rear about .75 and behave oh so better. You may not need another AAL when doing the 5100s to lift front depending on how far you go. If you go 2.5 up front then you may need an AAL out back unless you want it nose high. I did 1.5 AAL and have the 3 leaf pack because it was too late for me since buying used and over 36k and 5100s set at 2.5. I have 1.25 rake with back being higher.

 

So basically my best bet is going in and saying "it bottoms out under loads and it's a harsh ride over bumps"?

Oh how I love going to the stealership... lol

 

Called my dealer and explained problem. "Sorry, no TSB out for the 2011's, you can call Toyota Customer Care and see what they say".

Called Toyota Customer Care "Sorry, no TSB out for the 2011's, I'll have a customer relations manager that's assigned to your dealership call you within 3 business days".

Bullshit.

Any advice?

 

2011 Tacoma DC TRD off Road, got the 4 leaf TSB done about 2 weeks ago. Raised the back of truck approx. 1" ....

 

Have your service manager check the part# on your leaf springs and then compare them to the previous years with the problems. If they match then all he has to do is call toyota and get a verification. You just have to find a service manager that isn't lazy.

 

How does he get my current part # info? Getting these guys to exert effort is proving to be quite the task.

 

They just have not updated the TSB to include the 2011. If you can get the part numbers off your stock springs, they should match the same part numbers that are being replaced under the TSB. Thats how I approached it in 09 when the 09's we not included... I stressed bottoming out, and more importantly safety, I mentioned it could be unsafe to tow/carry weight with the current set up, and my TSB was approved within the day.

 

How do I get the part #'s off of my springs?

 

Look at the springs- there should be stampings and or stickers with the part numbers on the springs

 

Just called a 2nd dealer and this service manager was alot cooler, but he said because I already called Toyota 1800#, to hang tight and see what they say and go from there.

Hopefully whatever "person" calls me within 3 days is willing to listen to some simple reasoning.

 

All that will happen is someone will contact you, create a case #, hear your story, and then they will set you up with an appt with the local dealer's Service Manager to look at the truck. Stress how "un safe" it may be for you to use the truck as intended, and with all the safety issues surrounding Toyota, they will get it done for you. My two cents...

 

may be a stupid question but new to trucks. what exactly does this deal with? i know the basic like dealing with the hauling and load amounts. but not sure what all the problem is with it and really what the TSB is. coming from a camry.

The part numbers are painted on the top leaf facing the bottom of the truck.

You can haul stuff without riding on bump stops, you can tow without riding on bump stops & you can corner without feeling like the truck is gonna tip over...just the important things associated with using a truck like a truck.

 

And if it comes to it, and they just WON'T honor the TSB for my truck, will adding a AAL and 5100's to the back be comprable?

 

It'll be better.
The TSB isn't made to lift it's made to handle load better. It'll lift it a bit but even folks who get the TSB will still add a AAL after that for the height.
And the 5100s are a better shock than the stock Bilstein.
