What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

Considering one myself. Lots of flooding around me when it rains hard.

 

I dig it...may go that avenue as well.

 

Took a few inches off the stock mud flaps on the front. Didn’t like the way it looked. Hoping now it won’t catch on everything

 

Built another ARCHIVE crossbar today. My original one worked, but it’s when I had my old welder and the welds suck. Plus I drilled my holes a bit off and had to use 3/8” bolts instead of 1/2”. Also with my hammer hangers being so visible now, I thought this would be more aesthetically appealing.

Funny I thought about doing the same thing when I fabbed up the cross tube but wasn't quite sure if there was a reason Eric made a simple cross tube. Easy enough to do somethng different if needed.

 

Yeah this was like two hours of my time and $30 in material. A fun project if you feel like mixing it up in the future

 

My thought was if it was simply for sideway stress and the strait tube would geometrically be like the trying to smash an egg by pressing end to end scenario, its much stronger. I don't see how the bracing you made could in anyway be "weaker" it should be as, if not more, strong especially with the added gussetting. I never really liked the strait tube, appearance wise anyway. It serves it's purpose and it works

 

That’s exactly why I added the gussets. I think a straight tube is technically stronger but I’m hoping this’ll be adequate with the little amount of force it sees. I feel the same way about the straight tube. It’s not particularly bad but I think this looks better which is why I decided to mix it up.

 

Well you know as well as I do from the manufacturer's perspective the strait tube works and is much cheaper to manufacture. 2 plates and a tube, if that sells for what it does just imagine how much the extra time consumed to make what you did would jump the price or destroy profit. Guys like you and I are just fortunate enough to be able to make our own stuff, to a point, and we enjoy it.

 

Got my new grill painted also repaint my bumper and middle section on bumper

 

So much of this thread is engine washing and piddly little everybody is doing the same thing (unifilter/key fob/lit AC knobs) . It’s refreshing to see real work being done on a truck. Inspiring.

 

I would be interesting fabing a cross brace where a full 33, or 34" spare could be mounted in the OEM location. Might need to custom fab a rear bumper in the process.

 

Ya, I'm with several others, I think it looks pretty good. however it is your truck and you have to decide. If it is any consolation I did something very similar a couple of years ago. several friends liked it but I didn't so it came off. good luck!!
