I might be going on my first group ride tomorrow. Any tips or pointers from my TW friends?

Ride your own ride. - This is important, especially in groups, where other people might have more experience than you.

Dont try to keep up with the first guy or the guy in front of you.
Try to keep an eye on the guy behind you, in your mirror.
If you dont feel comfortable, slow down and/or stop.

    Well said!
My advice, for what it's worth, just be the last rider.

That is good too, but probably not that great for his first group ride? Maybe 3rd or 4th one in? Just in terms of getting lost

Agreed, I did think of that but I figured that everyone has a smart phone and he could just bring up a map and figure it out.
If he does get separated, I'm going to assume that he knows someone else who's riding. Just send a text and meet somewhere or just go where he wants.

I’ve been on quite a few group rides with people I just met. My advice is that you never know what kind of riders are around you so always leave extra space and try and stay at the back of the pack.....

    Thanks for the tips, everybody!
I do have a friend in the group who invited me, but I have no idea who all will be there and what kind of riders they will be. My friend did mention that “they get a little crazy on the twisty roads.”

I saw the route and I’m unfamiliar with most of the roads, so part of me thinks I should pass on this event so I can continue to build experience.
I have only about 800 miles under my belt and 90% of that is residential/suburban streets and roads. I’m torn because this also sounds like a good way to build experience.

Id say go. If someone wants to pass you, they will. I guess get the end location, so if you get separated, you can just take your time getting there, and hopefully they will wait for you.

When I went down on my FZ09 I was chasing a friend who had way more experience.. (that guy that now takes his Ducati Panigale on tracks in Germany). He eventually came back to check on me. But just know your limits

What @fatfurious2 said ... don't let other riders push you out of your comfort zone. Oh yeah and don't forget social distancing too lol

Agreed. I don't mind kids all that much, but then go home! HA! Luckily wife is older than me, kids are grown and we can do whatever the heck we want! :D
