Added a basket to the bandsaw. Needed to stiffen the legs up a little.

And got this belt sander running. Bought it off Facebook for $50. It needed and on/off switch. Put a new switch in and noticed the belt tensioner wasn’t applying enough tension to the tensioner. I added the tensioner rod and now it works great.

Did you choose square tube for extra strength? Vs bending round tube?
I’ve got extra scrap of square, but can bend round also

I chose it because I don’t have the capability to bend round. All things equal I would likely go round tube, with the gussets. But I would have holes cut out and dimple died because it looks cool.

Made a little program for my slider adapters and redesigned the tube holding part to be square instead of round. Now all my slider adapters are going to be CNC cut and easier to whip up.

I have the same bandsaw. Got it for cheap years ago.... It can be a fickle bastard but it cuts well!715FB3E2-02C5-4BD6-B455-9957484D9332.jpg

Same here. I jumped the gun when I bought it. It’s definitely got its quirks, but it cuts super straight, so I decided to invest a little time into it. I added a new hydraulic downfeed cylinder a few months ago. Hopefully in the next few months I’ll have the time to reinforce a few more things on it.

I absolutely need to change mine. It’s the biggest issue with the saw but I work through it.

I am planning on welding a mount for a removable tongue jack onto my trailer. However, the trailer is galvanized.

I know the fumes are dangerous when inhaled, so I won't be doing that. Are there any other things I need to be concerned with when welding to galvanized?

BTW, I will be MIG welding.

    Thanks.

Grind the galvanized away where you’ll be welding, it will weld so much better.

@EatSleepTacos you built your bumper to run 1/2” below the tail light, right?

and whenever you cut for the original HC, it was cut 1/4” below the tail light?

Drink a big glass of milk when you are done. It helps you not to feel sick when you’re done. I don’t know the reason, that just what the old timers at work say.

cut was flush with tail light. It’s got a 1/4” gap between taillight and bumper. Time will tell if that’s too close

Probably create less toxic smoke, too.

I've heard this as well. Not sure why it works.

    Thank you both.

Here's a paper on it. If I were to weld galvanized, I would grind it away and don an appropriate respirator. Getting sick from it sounds like nasty stuff.

    That was an interesting read.

Fortunately, I only have about 6" I need to weld, and I plan to weld in short sections. Maybe I can hold my breath while burning...

Honestly that'd probably work. Just grind it away first, lay a bead and then run away to catch your breath lol

Having done quite a lot of galvanized welding over the years what I found not so much the fumes from what I was welding but from the rest of the shop. The first chance I got to get a respirator that fit under my hood I picked one up as I seldom throw things away it is around someplace .

Where issues occur is when you have no idea the piece your welding has been galvanized which happens all to often.

Like everything else it effects everyone different .

This is a very good point.

We know for the most only a few pounds is being supported .

Here I will put these plastic buckets under the axle to swap the tires.

Some people get in enough trouble without help !!
