If I’m doing into the dessert where there’s going to be no wood. Then I just load up the top of the platform. I make room and stack stuff in like Tetris. Then when I get there I unload it all. Going home is always great. Also if you are going with people then have everyone bring some.

I'm a professional woodworker and always have scraps I can burn so I just load them in wherever they fit. I have an extra bin I can use for them.

So grateful for this thread. Here's what mine ended up looking like. We've taken it all over the western US. If I had to do it again I would probably get a taller shell. Otherwise it's been amazing.

I built my platform with a transverse split so I could create more room in the bed of the truck. Bringing some firewood wouldn't be a problem.
Works well for me. Simple and I really like the functionally of the setup.

This is what I want. A single big drawer. Did you make a build thread for it?

No but here's a couple more of the build. The sliders I used are 60" and rated for 500#. They weren't cheap but they were worth it.

Those pictures are helpful! Where did you get the sliders? Also you didn’t do any addition cross members over the large drawer, do you have any flex?

I want more of a bed slide rather than a drawer. But basically the same

Here's the sliders. I realized they're actually rated to carry 500#.

You mean cross member to support the plywood deck? I used 3/4" birch and added steel edges to the plywood (on the bottom so hard to see) for rigidity and the thing that actually helped the most are these H profile brackets that hold the 2 sheets of plywood together. They are very effective! There is almost 0 flex now.

What’s the best place for drawer slides? Finally decided to build a drawer system. Have a rough plan I’m mind just don’t know where to start looking for drawer slides.

might also check ovisonline.com - they seem to have a pretty wide selection if you’re looking for less common lengths, locking vs non locking, etc

Thank you, that site looks like I'll be able to find what I need. Didn't like the choices on Amazon.

If it’s not too cold, I built a platform in the cab and they sleep in there.
