I once had a chair that didn't have tilt and lumbar support.

    It was AWFUL.

THAT would have been an improvement.

    No A/C.
    No radio.
No suspension (all deuces and 5-tons).
No one going over 45 MPH.
    All towing loaded trail pieces.

Shit, it took us over an hour just to refuel the whole shebang.

Moving an entire tactical unit across country is literally the same thing as trying to get 3 dozen 4 year olds to sit still in a movie theater for a Minions marathon.

Because no one has actually met a “space forcer” :notsure:

We haven’t had the time or knowledge of their particular idiocy to garner the necessary ammo to berate them.

The best one I ever heard from a Nurse at the VA:
Went to the VA to see an Orthopedic Surgeon. His nurse was going over my symptoms, checking me in, and doing their 'interview'. I tell her what's going on that I started having Thumb CMC Joint Pain, what I was doing when it first started (Dec 18), its duration (about 9 months), my occupation (Aircraft Mechanic), and level of pain (7-8ish). She straight face looks at me and asks if I have ever shot a gun before and if I had if it was high powered and done repetitively that could be where it came from. I don't know if she was just trying to get it put that way into my VA Medical records or if she was just that naive.

I know exactly where to start - satellite controllers. They are an important job - they're managing the location and tracking of geostationary and orbital satellites ranging from the GPS constellations to very large COMSATS. It's a skill that pays the bills, and would normally not be one you would consider ripe for ridicule except for one major detail...

    ...they wear flight suits.

    Common comments:
"Are you a satellite pilot? Where do you sit on the satellite?"
"Man, I bet that commute up to geosynch is a bitch!"
"Wait, lemme understand this. You...FLY...a satellite. HOW MOTHERFUCKER?"
"Do you wear that so the drone pilots don't feel bad about themselves?"
"What kind of mileage you get on one of those things? Gas 'em up once a week?"
"Hey look, here comes Senior Airman Missile Command!"

Feel free to add your own.

Not naive - VHA and VBA employees and our veteran service organization partners are constantly looking for ways to connect something to your service. Technically, the VA is only supposed to be treating conditions related to service connected disabilities, which is why it's really important to be as thorough as possible when transitioning out of the service and filing that initial VA claim. Even if you end up getting zero percent across the board, any documented condition that worsens over time (and they all fucking do, man) can trigger a percentage increase. The "shot a high recoil weapon repeatedly" line is an instant-win; it never gets questioned.

My brother retired at 40%, but he's at 100% (employable) now because of his knees and back (three surgeries on active duty and a C-130 incoming missile incident). The conditions all worsened, and the VA adjusted accordingly.

When I retired, I didn't have anything listed for dermatology. However, I'd been to the sandbox 5 times. About 2 years ago, these small white crusty patches started appearing on my face and neck (got another one now, in fact) and they went through the paperwork to add "skin cancer risk" to my assessment so that this could be service connected. Apparently the crusty patches are precancerous, non-life threatening, but no chances are taken and they remove them. It was really cool that they made the effort to connect it back to my service so that it would be legally treatable.

I got out in 2002 with 20% Service Connected for Compression Fractures at L2 & L3 that happened in 1996 on Active Duty. I had a civilian Diagnosis of Melanoma in 2004. At my annual VA Check up in 2005 I told the Primary Care Team about the Diagnosis and the Surgery to remove it and the effected Lymph Node so that they could add it to my medical history. Doctor didn't even look up from his computer and said been to long, VA won't cover it. I was a Black Hawk Helicopter Crew Chief for 6 years. Worked 12+ hours a day on the flight line between Ft. Campbell, KY and Soto Cano Air Base (Palmerola) Honduras. They are not all our friends.
