Tried searching forums on a this question but did not find a definitive answer.

I have the chance to get the body armor hiline bumper for only $500. Brand new. Place im buying it from messed up something on my order so they are giving me a great deal on the bumper. But when i get it; I want to go ahead and prep it now so I dont have to worry about flaking or rust spots way down the road. So ive been thinking about just spraying it with some linex or rustoleum undercoating spray the day I get it.

Do I need to prep anything prior to doing the spray or can I just go right on in and spray it. It will be a nice quarantine project. Thoughts or suggestions?

Bonus points; pics of this bumper or any bumper with a rubberized spray so I can admire them.

I sprayed line-x on my bed rack over bare clean steel...it’s only as strong as the surface it’s bonded to...if you spray over rust or other surface coatings and that coating adhesion fails it will peel off.

Krylon the bumper or when you brush up against a rock, it will just peel off. Krylon or Rustoleum enamel.

So this would go straight into the bumper from the day it’s delivered. So before even installed. I’m assuming it’s just bare metal for lost part. I know it’s back but doesn’t say powder coated so I’m not sure if it’s just a primer. But it would again be sprayed right off the bat

Wouldn’t the rubberized coating do the same thing but without the flake? I have had linex on my Beds that have held up to literally everything. So that’s same thing that I was going for on the bumper.

Lines is awesome. I am just talking about regular old rattle can paint. Easy touch up. Good luck with your truck.

oh gotcha. Yea i like the look of linex on outside honestly. Matches the texture look of the fender flares on my OR (until I down the road get the bushwackers lol)

I do like the krylon for other things ive used before. That I agree with. did it with my battery tie down bracket

Thanks guys. Learn something new everyday. Our prime minister banned AR-15 in canada this morning, due to latest mass shooting in nova scotia.

I bought a kit at the auto parts store, it had a cleaner. I put it on brand new sliders, no issues. Sorry I can't remember brand kit.

EDIT: it was Dupli-Color from oreilys

Did you need to do any sort of primer before spraying?

Since the bumper is already painted black; im not real sure if I need to prime anything or not. This is my first time using bed liner spray on anything.

So AR-10s are still cool right. I'll see myself out before it gets political.

20200315_164508_HDR.jpg SOS Concepts slimline bumper with Line-X. Has held up really well so far. They do a wonderful job and I think it was like an extra $100 or so to add on.

This is what I plan to use. I more so just want to know if the line-x is sticking well to the painted surface or do I need to sand it all down and then spray. Or just run some primer over it first then apply line x. Thanks for that pic because it does look great.

Oh im no worried about it being perfect. Im doing this as a precaution. I know i will get chips and what not. Im just trying to prevent chips to the bumper painted as is so that rust spots do not form. I know ill miss some chips for touch up and next thing I know ill have rust lol

I guess so. Honestly i dont know shit about guns, except for the ones that were used in counter strike, ha! Have never even shot one. I also could care less about politics, my least favourite subject.

I heard that stuff on the radio, so decided to share.

I’m by no means an expert, but when I had a brand new Tundra and had the bed Linex-d, the first thing they did was took a grinder and roughed up the surface before the application.
