best air filters for an 01 v6

What do you guys think the best air filter is for a 2001 v6?

 

I got the K&N drop, but before that i had regular fram filter along with deck plate mod. The K&N didn't really add any power or much of anything but it is cool that its re-useable. So yea i guess it was worth it.

 

can u still do the deck plate mod with the K&N? and did it up ur mpg's?

 

Yea since the K&N was just a drop in filter and not a full intake the deckplate mod still worked. But as far as gas milage i might have gotten 1mpg + if that.

 

AFE has a pro dry S filter. you never have to oil it EVER. you just tamp it on the ground or wash it in water. dont have to worry a bout screwing up your MAF sensor either.

 

I did the deck plate mod with a K&N, but I didnt get any better mpg's but there was noticeable horsepower gain. I am interested in trying the AFE. Sounds cool

 

yeah its great. i got mine a few days ago and did the secondary filter removal. My 4 banger really sounds better. i dont know how well it works on the V6. but 4cyls work well with it.

 

can you do the secondary air filter removal on the 1st gen tacomas

 

there isnt one on the first gen tacomas. all you need to do for the first gen v6......deckplate mod and install a good filter such as the afe pro dry s.

 

What is a better choice, getting rid of the stock filter and putting in an AFE pro dry s, or getting rid of the stock intake and putting on an AFE intake?

 

well considering you have a first gen. i dont know how big the airboxes are in those engines. So you might want to look into an AFE cold air intake for your truck. All CAIs make a "whining" noise under WOT. Somewhat practical but not as much practical as the AFE drop in. personally i have a Pro dry S and i love it. sounds good and it actually saves me gas. So it would all be up to you on what you wanted to put in there

 

as with all intakes.......they get the most benefit out of them at higher rpms. i still think that the dyno proven deck plate mod, along with a drop in filter is the way to go. then top that off with a free flowing exhaust. i have the deckplate on mine, and havent gotten the afe filter yet....but i did install the dynomax super turbo muffler...and that has helped alot man. acceleration is a lot better. plus.........deckplate mod and good filter are way cheaper than an intake. but...if you are dead set on an intake....i think the afe would be the way to go.

 

Hey Will, i got the AFE drop in Pro dry S. i took out the Secondary filter too. man it sounds awesome around 2500- 3000 rpms. And the truck even idels around 800 Rpms now.

yup ive already noticed about a 2-3 mpg gain. that is of course when i dont floor it

 

yeah, I think I'll just get a drop in and do the deck plate, since the drop in is like what...$50 to $60 whereas the cold air is $300.

 

nah man the drop in is more like 30-40

 

it's 30-40 for the i4, 50-60 for the v6 i thought.
