Some people consider the .22LR to be a toy, which it definitely is not.
    Shot placement.

    Story time.

W.D.M. "Karamojo" Bell was a big game hunter in Africa in the latter part of the 19th century.
He was an advocate of small bore rifles and precise shot placement.
His favorite was the 7mm Mauser, with which he took many hundreds of Elephants, Cape Buffalo and other dangerous game.
He maintained that heavy recoil was detrimental to accuracy.

He purportedly once killed an Elephant with a .22 rifle with a shot in the ear hole.

Mind, you, that's not a very good idea.
It's taking things to a rather illogical extreme.
    Impressive stunt though.

Poachers here in PA take many deer at night while spotlighting.
    Their weapon of choice?
.22 LR, with a head shot.
Because it will do the job, and the report from a long barrelled .22 rifle doesn't carry very far.

Of course, using a .22 on deer is illegal, as it should be.
Anything less than a precise shot and there's a wounded, irrecoverable deer running around.

On the farm, when we slaughtered a steer, my Dad always killed it with a .22 shot to the head.

    Just saying...:notsure:
The .22LR is nothing to sneeze at.

Anyway, it has almost no recoil and it's fun to shoot.

I bought an inexpensive baitcaster pflueger a few years ago. Maybe $60 or so? Anyhow, it fell apart the first day of use. I'm pretty happy with Abu Garcia, been using them basically my whole life.
    True story:
I have one in my shop that my dad bought when I was a small kid, he used it for many years and it still works perfectly.
    True story side note:
Although I am a fan of AG, I feel that their quality is not what it once was.
    I still buy em though.
