First there is no way you can make that roof seal with window. So you definitely need to swap cabs. Wrinkled front could mean new radiator, hoses. In most rolls IFS twists, not by much but enough to be never aligned again. Body mounts are most likely crooked o nthe frame, so this needs to be cut and re-welded.
If you getting this to make into trail rig then hell yeah.
If you want to make it into DD, unless you find some truck that was totaled by its rear with out twisting mounts then maybe you will close it in $8k, of course granted you perform all the work yourself.

 

All I can say is lucky..

 

x5 on the trail rig, chop the roof off, take the doors off, put some waterproof seats, rip out all the interior electronics, put in a roll cage and go ape shit on the trails

 

Id fix it! Or at least make a sick 4-wheelin rig out of it! Hell, throw on fiberglass fenders, some long travel, ditch the bed, fix the doors and glass and it'd be sick!!! Or just sell me the TRD seats and e-locker rear axle....

Since it's free, I'd definitely take it! It really would be a fun project, well if you are mechanically inclined, have the tools, and time.

 

Who says he needs fenders? Why doors or glass (well, maybe tubes)? I think there's more potential in just going tube cage and leave the OK cab pieces. Sell the TRD seats to pay for some of it, sell the bed, and keep thinking that you are building a truggy.

Regarding only the insurance part of it if it's a concern: I know for a fact that this is false. There are many insurance companies that will absolutely provide full coverage on totaled vehicles that have been repaired.

 

It sounds like his in-laws already bought it back, hence why it's coming to him free from them, not the insurance company.

 

Well down here it is true because my friends dad's explorer got totalled and he wanted to fix it but he wouldn't get full coverage.... So please provide the companies that will full coverage a salvaged title. From what i heard companies dont provide full coverage on salvaged title, they will provide Liability but not full coverage. You are false bro

I think it's probably dependent on who's doing the work (certified shop vs. your garage), but that's just a hunch.

Spoken in true ignorance. You do not know if it is possible or not because you haven't done it yourself, you merely have someone else's experience to base off of. I can factually say it's possible because I had it on my last car, which was salvaged.

 

I think even if a shop does it, it's still considered a salvaged title. It's totaled for a reason, companies don't insure totaled titles because they are worth less (even if they are perfectly running and fixed at 100%)

 

Its not true that insurance companies don't provide full coverage on a selvage titled vehicle. You can get full coverage but if you get into a wreck the pay out the insurance company is going to pay is much lower than if it didn't have a selvage title. I work for a insurance company and that's how we do it.

 

You must get your insurance from a private company because no commercial company is gonna insure a salvaged title lol..... I don't need personal experience to know that you can't get full coverage on a car that's been totaled due to body damage... You can get full coverage on a rebuilt title but not a salvage.... Its considered salvaged for a reason... Salvage = worthless

 

Ok, if you want to get into the nitty gritty of it, let me explain it for you so you can understand a little better.

Salvage vs Rebuilt: When a car has been declared a total loss, it is issued a Salvage title. SALVAGE Title = WRECKED/unrepaired and cannot be registed/licensed for use on the road. Once a totaled vehicle has been repaired and inspected, it is then issued a Rebuilt title. REBUILT Title = REPAIRED/inspected and can be registered/licensed for road use, and fully insurable, if offered by the particular insurance company.

What does vary, as stated by someone on here who WORKS for an insurance company that offers it, is the end value of the vehicle, not the coverage options.
