Toyota Service Mishaps!!

When I go in for service I make sure to tell them I don't want the wheels rotated, and I even pocket my wheel lock key so they wouldn't be able to rotate my wheels. I'll rotate my own wheels.

 

i usually use meguiars but this was just water

 

Mark your tires in a discreet way and see if they even rotate them. They didn’t on mine. I’m such a mall crawler I have more scratches from mounting different tires than from rocks.

You are looking at this all wrong. What you need is a story around the damage. Something about how you were on an incredibly remote, tough trail, had to wheel your way out of a potential Deliverance situation, gunfire was exchanged, you had to change a tire while crawling over big rocks on the trail with them in hot pursuit...you get the idea.

 

Are you talking about the socket marks on the center cap? That's inevitable

 

the dealership rotated my wheels last week and i found one of my 2 missing lug nuts on my walk around the neighborhood. Not impressed. i typically torque them down but that was on this weeks list of things to do. Lots of loose lugs when i torqued them to 80.

Lol its just that its my first truck, i try to keep it looking good and i am paying for it meanwhile i expect good service from the service dept but hey it could of been avoided by either me or the service dept. oh well shit happens

 

Yeah. Well i forgot about the allen wrench that its needed to take off the center caps. I never even had that in mind and its probably because the last tire rotation this didnt happen but its ok it happens

 

Damn it just makes you wont to service your own vehicle lol

yeah, i do normally rotate my own tires, and do oil changes, but this is what i get for going for the "free" service

 

True. I can change the oil but idk how to rotate the tires. Its just free service so might as well but ill think twice now lol

 

next 5k mile im going bring my tools and torque my lugs right infront of the service crew and call out any that are loose. "THATS A LOOSE ONE!" as loud as i can.

 

you just take them off and put them back on in a different spot.

Google tire rotation pattern and move the tires from spot to spot as shown in the diagrams.

You are welcome. The whole point is to even out tire wear patterns. For example the front tires are under different stress than the rear, so the tread will wear a little differently. If you leave them in the same spot for 50,000 miles it can become more drastic. If you keep moving them front to back, side to side, they wear more evenly.

 

It is a bit tedious with just a floor jack, but not difficult by any means. Just don’t forget to torque the lug nuts. It is easier to forget than you might think, lol.
