Bought the truck new and don't remember a brake adjustment from first free maintenance. Would have had to be wrong from factory. I drive very easy on the brakes and very cognizant not to ride them. ???

Doesn't happen often but Yes they do, it's unreal, you'll be cruising speed on the highway and someone keeps lighting them up. It's usually father time in his Grand Marquis.
I remember as a kid, we had several families on a convoy to Disney World. My dad and his friend in another van were commenting over the CB, how friend in third van kept flashing the brakes, cause he rests his left foot on the pedal. Trip home was rerouted, van 3 went a different way home alone.

8 hrs later still haven’t cared enough to check his own brakes, just talk about how someone else didn’t either.

Perhaps, but they told you the brakes had 50% left which would imply they weren't expecting you to replace them at that service anyway, so there was no money incentive IMO.

My guess is they didn't check them properly or you do have some brake dragging going on.

From a quick search, rear drum shoes are considered new at 5mm which is what my paperwork said. I think the service rep gave me bad information. Still going to check myself. If I'm wrong on thickness someone please inform me.

Same thing happened to me, next service was higher than 50%. They’re back brakes, don’t worry about It

The clown who worked for the dealership probably read 5mm on the paperwork and assumed they were disc brakes, so that would be about half life.

Obviously, for drum brakes, 5mm is about brand new.

Because they know you can check the fronts and most likely wont check the rears

I'm at 149k and JUST changed my rear shoes. And the originals still had some life on them

Manual trans/downshifting for the win. On my last vehicle (manual trans Scion) I traded it in with just shy of 100k miles and still on the original brakes. That car especially you could practically bring it to a stop by downshifting. With my Tacoma I usually brake to a stop after getting into 2nd gear.

Did the inspection sheet say 50% and 5mm? Why don't you just call them back and ask for clarification?

This is what happened to me. I got the express service desk advisor who told me at 5k miles I was 50% rear brakes. I said if that's right we have a warranty issue because this is basically brand new. I was passed over to a service advisor with some seniority who looked at the print out and said 'nope, this is what they should be. Basically brand new and good to go.'

    Almost certainly what's happening here.

Apparently you blew over post 34 where the specs were provided for you by @splitbolt?

Yeah, you've gotten some marginal answers, because comedians. However, you've also gotten all the accurate answers you could ever ask for, w/o one of us actually doing the work for you.

If you're nervous, check it out yourself.

Personally if it's stopping fine and no excess heat in the rear after several miles, I'd just drive it.

    You do you though.

    I'm out.

You need to pull the drum and measure it yourself. Service Tech may have needed some hours that week.

Should almost be the other way around...your fronts do more of the breaking than te rears...they're lying to you!

So why did you state they were at 50%?
