I am a member of a Few FB trucker groups... but in the last few months they have became so ridiculously political they are really just annoying to participate in. Seeing how this sites CoC prevents such conversations I figured I'd try to start a thread here in Hope's of better trucker ranting.

Any truckers here wanna just rant?

My background first. I spent my first 5 years as an OTR trucker for Swift, Western Express and Heartland. Then I developed a drug problem and ended up with legal issues... that took me off the road so now I work locally. My primary job is roll-off but seeing how our company does portable toilets and I'm one of 3 employees with a class A tanker Endorsement... I end up driving on occasion our pooper trucks and the 5000 gallon tanker we use to haul... well shit... to the treatment plant.

    What's everyone else do?

Drove for Melton out of Tulsa, Oklahoma for 12-14 months, or thereabouts.

Started at Smokey Point Distributing out of Arlington, Washington in October 2018. Did Over-the-Road up until early April when Rona started really affecting our freight (we do a lot of Boeing and aerospace runs, if they shutdown we lose 60% of our weekly freight and have to start pulling cheap nonsense off the boards)... so I started running "locally" out of Florence, SC doing elevator deliveries for OTIS. Still with Smokey it's just a dedicated position

Lots of tight job-sites -- universities, hotels, office buildings -- places you don't want to be. Places you don't fit without the A-game and some extra pair of eyes from the people on the ground. Run a lot to Charlotte/Raleigh/ChapelHill, sometimes further north to DC/Baltimore, Richmond, lots of Atlanta, CharlestonSC area, and occasionally the coastie tourist towns. Salaried -- which is very nice with the financial climate, full benefits, and a pretty laid back gig once you get "good" at it. We got guys that run to Florida/Texas and we have a crew up in PA doing the dreaded NYC area.

I come home to Asheville NC area every other weekend, allowed to take the truck with if I so choose. Thinking about bringing the Tacoma down to Florence this summer if things go back to "the old normal" ? o_O

    Sounds like a win.

Yeah... roll off can be the same sort of trying. Big can... small site. And people like to park and put all their crap around it.

Oh... and our highest customer base is in South Walton County... which is populated with pompous assholes who want a beachfront getaway home.

Curious op, do you work for a waste company?

I don’t drive but I do have my class B, I’m a diesel mechanic for republic services and for the first 10yr of my career I worked for waste management. When waste management here in town use to own port-o-let we had to work on the pooper trucks...lol brings back memories when you said you occasionally have to drive the pooper trucks.

I work for a small local company here in town called Disposal Services. We do roll off waste exclusively... no household pickup. We also however have Gotta-Go portable toilets on the other side. Were one company so although I am designated as a roll off driver... being I have a class A tanker ( one of only 3 in the company) I occasionally have to take our 5k gallon tanker full of shit to the waste treatment plant over in Port St Joe ( 55 minutes east of here).

Easy. Just a lot more police presence than normal. We had six deliveries into Atlanta this past week -- I spent my time in the Charlotte and Richmond areas instead.

Got another Charlotte (Kannapolis) this Monday and then I'm running to Dalton Georgia on Wednesday.

Work keeping ya busy down in Florida?

Being in the roll off business... we are still very busy since Hurricane Michael.

There's still a bit of demo and clean up... but most things are in the rebuilding phase. So I foresee us being busy for quite a while.

I drive for a major refrigeration carrier. Got to do Wreaths Across America last week. Have to say it was pretty awesome.

GU818... those are good trucks. That was what I drove at my old job... in roll-off form.

    I don't drive a big rig, but I have a class-A.
I drove utility co. line trucks for many years and at times dragged 40-50 ft utility poles.
