I am looking at bed covers for my 2007 Tacoma with an extended bed. Don't want to drop $800 on one. Anybody had any luck with any of the cheaper fold up bed covers? Give your experience good and bad and note the brand please. Recommendations appreciated.

I use rugged liner tri-fold. I know your not looking to spend 800$ however I have seen one used for 300$ after I purchased mine. I like the cover as I have yet to have any leaks, secure, and easy to uninstall. Overall I am happy with purchasing it from real Truck.

The deals are out there, If you want a hard cover than i would keep looking and not settle. I found a used bakflip fibermax on FB market place for $300. I did have to fix one thing on mine, the prop rod screw knob had cross threaded and I had to drill out and helicoil. Two new knobs from lowes and it was good to go.

Here's my opinion on tonneau covers. The fiberglass 1 piece, painted to match, tonneaus look really nice and keep the water out really well. However, if you are ever in a situation where you unexpectedly need to haul something taller than the bed rails, you're screwed. Let's say you're 100 miles from home and you find a great deal on a motorcycle or ATV. Also, it takes 2 people to remove it.

The Extang folding tonneau is a 3 piece cover and it only folds twice. So, you end up with 1/3 of your bed still covered.

I personally have a Bakflip tonneau on my Taco. It's awesome. You can fold it all the way up to the back of the cab, so with it completely folded, you only lose about 3" of bed space. If you really want it completely removed, it's just 2 thumb wheels and 1 person can easily lift it off. It doesn't keep the bed completely dry, but it's only a small amount of water that gets in and with a pop n lock, it’s secure. I bought mine off Craigslist. They show up for sale periodically.

I bought a used tyger (Amazon or eBay) trifold off face book market place. It wasn’t my first choice as I’d really like a roll n lock, but for 50 bucks it has held up well for a few years now.

Buy a used one on here or craigslist or Facebook marketplace. So many peeps sell them.
I got my hard cover tri fold for a really good price from a member on this forum. I love it
cause I can have it off and on in less than 5 minutes. I would not spend a penny over $300 bucks
for a used one in perfect shape.
