Is this what I’m supposed to use for power steering in my 2017 SR5? Does it matter that it’s “stop leak”? That’s all I can find

Yeah, what @Babybluetaco said, I think you're looking for ATF in the power steering section. But look in the transmission section for "ATF"

I would not use 'stop leak' in anything.

And why a 17 needs fluid is a more important issue to solve.

The manual states Dexron 2 or 3 ATF.

The stop leak portion of that stuff is a pass for me. Is it going to swell and bust seals in the rack?

Which were superceded in 2005(?) by Dex VI, which is fully compatible with all previous versions.

(I think the manual is wrong)

So OP you'll likely find Dex VI ATF in multiple brands with no issue

I’ve heard people get them from the dealer low on fluid before. I have a 17 and I just purchased it about 2 months ago and the power steering, coolant, and brake fluid are all low. I’m going to top them off and see what happens and if the levels lower again I’m going to take it back to the dealership and have them look

Yeah, I’m just going to get it somewhere else because that Walmart has a terrible selection when it comes to fluids.

It's debatable that Dex VI is backward compatible as a power steering fluid, as GM/AC Delco has their own proprietary power steering fluid.

    Go to 2:12

Yeah, I didn’t get that. This is the first Toyota I’ve ever owned. I last owned a Ford where you use power steering fluid for power steering

My Ford takes Type F ATF in the power steering.

They dont use the proprietary stuff in all applications. Most of their newer vehicles use Dex 6. The argument that Dex 6 is not as good as Dex 3 for power steering fluid is that it's a thinner fluid. Although that's true, dex 6 is much more shear stable and wont thin out the way dex 3 will over it's useful life. I used to work from GM hence I know a lot about their fluids. I have about 4-5 gallons of dex 6 sitting in my garage that I cant get rid of so I've been servicing my 2016's power steering system with it, in hopes of eventually using it all up. No problems so far. Theoretically dex 6 will flow better and you'll have a smoother power steering system in the cold. I havnt noticed any major differences but where I live we typically get winters in the 30F, with occasional 20F temps. It'll probably be more noticeable closer to 0F.

At the end of the day, the fluid is used a hydraulic fluid and you need a fluid that is compatible with your seals. I would just buy a quart of Mobil 1 ATF, or some other synthetic ATF and service your power steering fluid with it once a year. No need for a flush or anything, just empty the reservoir and top it back up. It'll save you the headache of having to deal with an actual flush once your truck is closing in on 10 years and the fluid is all black with build up in your reservoir.

Why are these fluids low? They're all closed systems?

Normal for the brake fluid level to drop a small amount as the pads/shoes wear. That doesn't mean it's actually low

Cool...you'd be the guy to ask then.
Doesn't GM only advise GM/AC Delco Dex VI as a substitute for non-GM power steering that require Dex III?
