That's just it, they weren't something you want to ride anywhere else..I had the Suntour XC-II ones and used to swap them for something less aggressive after racing.

I did the same with XC-IIs. They are still on my bike. Good everyday pedal.

Ahh memories. I had two of those. Broke them both in half right at the head tube riding quarter pipes back in the day. Fun times.

Man, I'm loving this thread. I've worked in bike shops since the late 70's & was a big BMX kid for awhile. I only became a professional hoarder later in life (lots of vintage MTB stuff). If I had only saved that BMX stuff from the 70's/80's. It's amazing the prices you see some items going for.

Here's a few old school items. The pliers are for size reference. A Calif. Lite brakelever hood, and some chain tensioners.

Also some collected frames & some of my original #plates.

Edit: That # plate on the bottom right, has decals for Ashtabula, Bendix, & Oakley

Any advice on brake pads for the Pro Comps? Seem to be getting decent grab but pads just slide.

    Still thinking about it.
Talk about the old days... this is a fun thread. Thanks Texas T. My first BMXer ever was a Schwinn Scrambler. Black painted frame and yellow "mags", as we called them back then. Must have been about 1984..

What are Pro Comps, is that a certain bike rim? I googled it and got Tacoma wheels.

This thread got me thinking about old bikes so I've been hitting ebay/CL daily catching up on the market. After seeing the limited availability I can appreciate some of the bikes shown in this thread even more.

I found the frame I would have bought 30 yrs ago in nearly perfect shape 3 hours south of me for $450, I'm on the fence about getting it. The plus is it would sit in my garage and I wouldn't regret not snagging it while it is for sale. On the downside, I think a 20" is probably too small to actually ride daily around. Do you guys actually ride old 20" frames much anymore? I still bike daily on neighborhood trails with my dogs and hit jumps/whoops etc. and I think a 20" might just be too small at 6'1". I'm thinking a 24" or 26" would make a lot more sense to actually ride every day, more like the 2017 GT below for $750 on CL posted yesterday, it's a 26". I know GT sold out sometime around the late 90's and turned into heavy steel junk, at least that is what I thought about their MTB stuff from 2000-now but never really studied it, and I wouldn't go for yellow, but in terms of a rideable bike this looks more of what you would want for daily stuff nowadays.

So here's a question for you guys that were/are into BMX bikes like I was in the 80's but I got into MTB in the 90's and forgot about BMX for 30 yrs. If you're going to ride at least an hour a day and hit some jumps on the way nowadays, would you build a 20", 24", or 26" bike?

My son on my mostly original PK Ripper from 1983. I bought the frame new when I was 14. It used to have blue Skyway tuff2 wheels, but I had sold them off as I had two sets of Pro Class wheels. When I finally trashed them I got this black set. At least they're official Skyway brand. I still ride it now and then.

NS Bikes Surge Evo frame. Supposed to be a freeride/AM bike but I honestly just ride it around town like a BMX bike 99.9% of the time ha.

One of each... I'm not tall at all. I'm 5'7" but the bmx bikes that I use the most are 26" bikes. They are great for me to cruise around on and if I want to go faster I can just step in it. I have a 2012 OM Flyer and a 2017 Fairdale Taj. Both are great cruisers. My 24" cruisers are even lazier for me and don't get much use. I've bought a few 20" bikes but most are 18.5 top tubes so they feel a little cramped but still fun.

Edit... I had a 2017 GT Pro Performer 26 but it was too long for me so I sold it.

In general I would say grab it, especially if it's the GT frame I'm guessing
