The number of good skilled mechanics and journeymen in all trades has been declining for years. The demand is there, employees have options.

Lucky where I am. CA started very early. 1400 employees, zero positives.
No need to gamble with people's lives. We can get by mostly working from home,
Occasionally going to the office when it can't be fixed remotely.

Next step will be 50/50 home work with staggered schedules. PPE and sanitizer provided.

Too bad cause I'm getting use to my pre-retirement lifestyle. 5 more years until that happens.

Can't say I blame them, been bounced around like ping pong balls. Just be safe. Local book distribution warehouse we have talked about in the past just put their people on mandatory 7 day weeks. In the past when employees were out sick and ran out of time company dumped them. Not right.

We have more people coming back from layoff this week. Some people are starting a two week layoff. Staggered shifts in the main plant. Things are still going to be slow for me. Lots of :playball::pccoffee:.
PPE and sanitizer supplied. I spend about 15 min at the start of my shift wiping things down.
I'm just very thankful that both my wife and I are still working.

Good morning all, in reading through today's thread it is apparent our groups age. Not all but a large majority of today's new workers do not take pride in what they do nor care. That is not how we were raised or were mentored - the new work force can be equated to what our parents thought about us in some respects. However there are a lot more options for the upcoming work force to get away with doing less and expecting more, so the chances of them growing into who we all are today is less likely. Just my read on the angst we are all feeling.

I wanted to work four more years but with the industry I am in and the current situation I am being forced into early retirement (I am 66 but feel like 50). A team of us have been sharing our experience through webinars for the past six weeks on how best prepare for the changes that are coming and it amazes me how many young professionals are in denial and feel things will get back to levels of last January soon - WTH.

Thanks for letting me rant, have a great day :annoyed:

    Morning all

Going from business to business has us worried, but the higher ups are sitting at home counting money and telling is how concerned they are for our safety.

Done that. Both kidney stones and forgot vacations.
I have 6 years to go if the economy has recovered. My wife thinks I can start a new career making more money. She is always chasing the money over happiness thing, it bothers me.

Dad gave up his career for a higher paying job, hated it.

Told me and my brother, "do what you like but like what you do".

Me, I love my job, I am comfortable and will figure it out when I get there.

Google "Optima batteries are not the same as they use to be". You will find lots of "my battery is 8 years old and still works" but more my battery is less than two years old and I'm only third one".

It looks like something changed in the last few years not for the good. That is what lead to me buying the Walmart platinum battery.
