actually to update that, I did quite a bit of highway testing. You should be fine with any gears, stock 4.88 or 5.29.
Just have to try to cruise and not generate too much boost.
5.29s might be the gear that puts you on the threshold of insta-full boost when getting into the throttle a little

I'd appreciate a catted option. Catted dp's with the base kit would be a super nice OEM-seeming setup I think if numbers aren't affected too much

That said, if those of us from this first batch have to commit to catless, that's fine with me as long as I either don't pop a CEL or can turn it off, maybe that's a vF thing. Whichever.

No I did not. Most of the testing was not really "fun" or worth videoing. It was just testing and tune debugs.

All of the boost testing was done on 4.88s right? Is your test truck still 4.88 or did you go back to 3.91?

edit: I guess if high mph light throttle on 5.29 is ridiculous, worst case scenario would be regearing back to 3.91.

4.88's may be best gearing for the TT IMO 5th and 6th still have lower RPM's on the highway and in the city 4.88's work the best. This is on 285/75/17 (33.8") Stock tires and stock gearing i think the TT will really shine! But its been over 3 years since i was stock gears & tires!

Speak for yourself, maybe for the AT lol for the MT folk, I'm expecting my 4.30's with 265/70r16's to continue to shine when the twins go on board :D

Oh yeah for sure MT 4.30's are going to be great! Will be better then the 4.88's in most case's depending on tire size. IMO!:p

Yeah stock gearing in the auto sucks. You definitely want 4.88 or 5.29 depending on your tire size.

If I had an auto, I’d for sure be running 4.88s as soon as it came home

I have some questions that I couldn't find here or at least i didn't feel like it was discussed enough. I am interested in this turbo kit too as i am already a OV ECU Re-Flash customer. Just loaded the 2.0 flash for my Manual Tacoma today and it works awesome.

    1. Turbo charged high compressions engines like this should be avoided in general(except race car). Examples of modern day factory all aluminum block and head: the Civic type R runs a 9.8 compressions with direct injection. Our V6 trucks run an 11.8:1 compression. I always thought you wanted a lower compression to work with turbo chargers and superchargers. I understand that modern engine management is super fast and can detect pre-detonation and adjust faster then ever before. But i am assume this might be potential issue for higher HP.

    2. Piston Ring gap. I understand this engine has the nice pistons and connecting rods to support the higher HP levels as mentions earlier in the pages. My understanding is the piston ring gap for a Naturally aspirated engine is slightly tighter then the engines designed for Boost. This is mainly due to greater amounts of heat causing more expansive the rings and causing piston top failures later. I've read about many engine failures where people simply bolt on turbo kits and supporting fuel modifications. Is there something I am missing about this engine especially that will account for this? I am assuming up to about 10 psi of boost is OK???

    3. Fuel system. The turbos are from garret I believe if i ready correctly(good thing). But i didn't find any names attached to the injectors or their flow rates. Bosh???

    4. No boost regulation out side of the the engine computer safety features. I travel 30 mile to work everyday. I don't need boost while cruising at 65-70 @ 2.1K RPM with my manual transmission. This will also be an issue for the re-geared guys too. Need a way to just bypass the exhaust gases around the turbos. "Boost by Gear" or actually it is boost by speed is was not mentioned. We have trucks and our back end is very light. I am spinning 33 KO2 tires with a ARE CAP on the back of my truck. We need to put the power to the ground other wise you'll just be spinning hard.

Any how, it would be nice to know some of these things for better piece of mind.

None at this time. Too poor for twin turbos.

I remember OVTUNE talking about Q1 earlier but i cant find it. From what I remember Lotus engines use the same/similar engine our trucks have and he's been able to put more power through them than what the turbo setup for out trucks will be. I'm pretty sure he talked about how the trucks engine could handle around 450 HP/TQ fine as long as you don't trash it around. Hopefully I didn't misquote OVTUNE but I'm pretty sure the base and powermax(before you start running 50/50 meth mix) wont over stress the engine too much.

EDIT: I looked up the Lotus evora 400 and its the same engine supercharged pushing 400 HP and I'm pretty sure i remember OVTUNE saying he's been able to get more power out of the engine.

Powermax high boost kit targets 22psi iirc :notsure: anything less is presumably safe

Evora is 2GR-FE. Weaker than our engine actually.
