If I were to purchase this remote starter how would I go about connecting it without voiding my factory warranty? Just trying to save a little money but not at the expense of my warranty :fingerscrossed:

Even though there are laws to to protect consumers for adding aftermarket items to their vehicle. Once you modify your truck in anyway it’s pretty much a the dealers discretion. Some are better than others but if they determine any issue your having could be caused by the changes you made they can choose to not fix it under warranty.

Seems like that is an add-on cellular system to an existing remote start system.

No, it will not void your warranty. However, if any future warranty claim can be tied back to that install (electrical issues/failures) the dealer will deny it. As mentioned above, it is at their discretion. So, even if the failure connection to the install cannot be proved, they can deny the claim.

To be fair, why should a dealer Warranty something caused by some aftermarket product installed by a 3rd Party?

Thanks guys I had heard that once you cut, splice, or t-tap any part of your wiring harness then that voids your warranty so good to know!

You also have to find a dealer the DS4 programmed to your truck. If you get the T-Harness THTHON6 it’s almost plug and play, except one wire.

Yea I was looking at the harness too. I might be going with the one from 12volt solutions tho. It’s a little more but it’s only $35 for the year of cell service and that’s cheap compared to other options.

I forget how much DEI charges for theirs, but the first year is free. The DS4 does work without the VSM550 though.

Yea I think I’m gonna go with 12v... they seem to really have amazing customer service from what I’ve heard.

Too many trucks and mods to list.. check builds
if you ever have issues related to the dash harness or the vehicle not starting it will surely be used against you in a warranty claim.
a plug and play kit typically wont affect it as much (because no wires are harmed in the install)

but they may charge you to remove an plug and play kit if its causing issues

I think most people would agree that is absolutely fair, me included. The issue is the grey area. How many times have we heard about a dealer denying a claim where the aftermarket part/install was very unlikely to be the cause? We hear that from time to time on TW.

Go with @N2DesignsInc . He's a member here and has great support. Same kit as from 12V. I have his kit (I added cell later) and it's great.

If it were me and I had a no start issue I'd pay to have my truck towed home and remove the kit. There'd be no trace of it since nothing is cut and then have it towed to Toyota. But that's just me.

True, but often it's the truck owner who has the opinion that something did not cause a problem. Some Dealers suck but when I worked at a dealership I couldn't believe some of the things I saw that people wanted Warrantied. The best line I ever heard was from a Service Writer for a guy who had a huge Boom system installed that caused a failed Alternator and other electrical problems- "The Warranty covers the Car we sold you, not the one YOU built." People try to scam Dealers all the time, this is part of the reason some are soo uptight. Warranty claims were always the easiest for people who left their cars alone.
