Yup. Look at housing in the PNW. I am unfortunately stuck in the one metro area where housing is deflating, sucks because no one wants to live here which makes it harder to get out.

I have been looking for insurance companies that sold long term care policies / nursing home care coverage . I know GE was one and had to set aside billions for these policies and had misjudged but GE has other problems There must be others in the biz. It is a morbid thing to think about but these policies providers may benefit . I have been searching but have not found much as far as stocks . I am old and one of the most likely to pass also , so no need to judge .

we’re all talking stocks. From the get go we break down a company into how it can give us the most return and be worth the most, and to do so requires toeing a fine line of morality all the time between people and profits. Sometimes some companies tip toward profits and those are the ones people want to buy for the best returns. Ish. But the entire point of a publicly traded company is its shareholders and profits. Less so it’s people. And this is someone who works for a multi billion dollar company on the NYSE. so no judgement there.

that said some companies don’t really do the whole publicly trading thing because they’re there to make a profit and run as a business, but not for public shareholders. I used to work for a massive company which did whatever it wanted and where it wanted against whoever it wanted because it wasn’t a publicly held company, so they didn’t have to answer to share holders or be responsible for losses. The owner president could afford to take the losses if something went bad and wouldn’t fire everyone and go belly up.

nah. But sausages. Sausages will be the new gold. Measured in ounces and pillaging villages for it in video games.

Today was my first day back to work. I must say I missed checking this thread every 5 minutes but I'd rather have the paycheck.

I'm waiting on earnings from FLIR, ROKU, and AXLN this week. My options on them expire on the 15th. It's gonna be a fun ride.

You can get dividends out if that food too if you can get your animals to mate, lay eggs before you slaughter them, etc.

As long as you aren’t using this opportunity to not pay rent just because you think you can get away with it, I don’t care too much what you do with your money

*shrug* Do this if you want. Just don't whine when your landlord initiates eviction proceedings -- and/or refuses to renew your lease if you catch things up before being evicted.

Yea, that’s how it will happen. I’m sure the evicted tenants won’t get the attention of the media with righteous twitter folks condemning the landlord for putting people in the street because they “couldn’t” pay because of this horrible pandemic. Protesting outside the rental units and getting everyone to stop paying rent until he’s forced to sell the property at a discount just so he can stop the madness and get on with his life.

If you actually can’t pay rent, that’s one thing, but it seems the number of people not paying rent is a bit much relative to actual unemployment.

I posted an article way many pages ago about some dude advocating a rent strike. Not like “demand your landlord give you a break on it for a month” or whatever. Not work with the landlord. Straight up, wanting to organize renters to just not pay and be forgiven for it.

I understand we’re in some jacked up times but doing that just transfers your woes onto someone else. I know a few rental property owners. They’re decent people but they aren’t rolling in dough. They’re just the normal average joe that got into rental properties instead of other investment opportunities. There are bad landlords but not everyone is.
