Both diffs out and ready to send to ECGS! Still have to remove the elocker. Called this morning, there's about a three and a half week lead time Since they're already out, I'm going to go ahead and send mine in to avoid the core charge

Two questions for those who have used ECGS.
1) How much do I keep off of the front diff? I removed the jackshaft (I think that's the correct term?), all three mounts, and both plugs.
2) How did you pack it them? I've looked at the method in this link http://gearinstalls.com/box.htm , but don't know if I can get any of the instapack padding locally.

 

Just use 5 gallon buckets to ship them.

 

Lol well yeah but fucking with anything on the truck in shit weather sucks. I’ve only needed the spare gas on the kokopelli, or I was pushing it on the highway. Chances are I can plan the use of the jerry can. Cv, likely less easily but still easy enough to pull off to a better spot to get it, you need a good level spot to change a cv anyway. We’ll see though, I will be interested to see how it works out.

 

What wheels are those? They look familiar but I can't seem to find them.

Picked up camper panels, screwed up and didn’t narrow the bulkhead and rear hatch for the narrower bed rails of the skinny, svelte, better 1st gen. Have plan, will prevail.

Frame starts Thursday. Hopefully I don’t sleep and spend all weekend putting this thing together. Oh yeah, still sewing the tent. Did I mention I don’t sew but like most things, no better way to learn than the during the main event. Super nightmare.

Played around with the idea of an homage to the Wildernest and made an “updated” logo. Fun exercise, decided against it.

I daily drove an XFI for a few years that I rebuilt the engine in. Got up to high 50s mpgs they're fun little 1.0L 3 cyl 5 spd wannabe Suzuki Swift

 

I have the BIG block, 1.3L 4 cylinder The best I have gotten was 55 MPG.

 

Noice. Very well built engines. They received the worst maintenance and owners ever, cheapskates that tried to drive the poor things into the ground. It's a miracle as many lasted as have.
That big engine with the 5 spd in that early super light body style would move along alright, like years 89-94 was it? Maybe up to 95?
But that XFI was so light. It would scoot with that 1.3L as funny as that does sound

Also had a 1999 Chevy Metro 3 cyl 5 spd. 1 PO and it had like 250k miles but was mint mechanically and interior. Also pretty consistently got 45-50 mpg.....

Battery mount, knuckle with high steer, and positioned panhard brackets to match drag link angle.

 

I like the idea as space is a major consideration when traveling across this great country, but there are two questions that (I might have missed) am asking:
1. Where is the exhaust pipe and how close to the gas can is it?
2. Some of us have RTTs above those gas cans and with the rise/lower of temps and elevation, expansion happens which can lead to fumes below the RTT. Has this been thought of or handled?

I guess this idea would be the same as carrying gas cans in the bed and/or on the side of the bed racks or the F150 gas tank between the frame rails.

 

Just got a prinsu rack second hand, is it an easy install?

 

Not to bad, my current roof rack was built for my old Hilux, so it had to be "modified" to fit the Tacoma cab.
My only suggestion would be to remove your headliner and triple measure before drilling the holes. I managed to drill into the roof seam that you cannot see with the headliner installed on both my Hilux and my Tacoma.

 

Okay, I dig this. I would say, instead of that drill to drop, you could wire in an old car window roller on a spool to drop that and wire it inside the bed rail.

Whatcha going to do with the E-locker? Why are you going away from it to the ECGS? ECGS is LDS, right?

 

Not sure if this qualifies as things done to my tacoma, but it once was in my truck . I up-cycled my original passenger seat into a desk/computer chair after doing a 4runner seat swap. It surprisingly comfortable when it's not mounted in the Tacoma's seating position.
