    @Tacoma Mike

Question...I'm taking the wife’s '19 Corolla in for the airbag/pretioner recall. From what I understand, they're installing a noise suppressor between the airbag controller and harness.

Are you familiar with this procedure? Just curious what all it involves

Not much of a big deal..

Thanks. I figured as much. I know the controller usually resides under the front part of the center console

That's pretty much what my thought was when the deer jumped out into the road at full sprint.
That would be a correct guess. Shut the truck off as soon as I could so it didn't overheat.
    Sums up my feelings perfectly.

I was on my way home from buying the new front bumper cover and headlights for the truck too. $115 in parts and $20 in gas driving to get it all. Just to really kill the thing. Pushed the core support in as well, so there's a lot of damage to fix.

I bought the truck for $600, so it only has liability on it, no sense in reporting this to insurance since it won't do me any good.

I did just find this gem... hmmmm127DD6F1-FB75-4B4F-817C-7A7F370A38BD.jpg

Well, looking around online at replacement parts, it's actually going to be pretty affordable to fix this... replacement hood (with hood scoop because why not) $135. Front core support $50, front fenders $100 for the pair. Having a local body shop repaint them all super white and the bumper cover as well, $350... I may fix this after all. New radiator $130. AC didn't work anyways, may as well delete it since the condenser is pooched too now.

No injuries, just my wallet hurt. I'm getting good at hitting these suckers without setting off the airbag!

Well, priced the majority of it all out and with shipping+handling, all the big body parts came out to $683. Radiator is another $117 in store (autozone.) Not sure what all else I will end up needing, so I'm just going to tack on another $200 for miscellaneous. Doing all the removal and installation myself, without getting anything painted, that's $1000 to get it back together and un-deerified. My big dilemma now, is deciding if it's worth it or not. Having everything painted will put me probably in the 1450-1500 range.

The truck has 260k miles, burns a quart of oil every 1k, and has now whacked two deer. On the plus side of things, it's got four brand new tires, Wet Okole seat covers in shipping, new (to me) headlights to be installed, new (to me) bumper cover to be installed, 21-22mpg, and getting the frame replaced this fall.

Given all that, does it make sense to fix it? I think private sale for it in repaired and ready to go condition is maybe $3500-$4000. I bought it for $600 and I've really only done maintenance to it, with the new tires and brakes and all, I'm around 1500 into it as it sits.

I welcome all input and thoughts, I'm currently inclined to fix it, but I'm worried it'll nickle and dime me to death.79C484A3-B274-45F8-8839-CE520E86B90D.jpg11F03CEB-6C41-4C0C-9243-7A4A18EB994E.jpg

Fix the ole girl. She’s protected you now multiple times. Don’t put her out to pasture just yet.

I wonder how much it would cost to fix the oil consumption ? I actually like the 2WD 5-lugs more than the 4x4’s... Only because I so rarely get off-road or in the snow...

I get in the snow a lot. And off road occasionally. The oil consumption is guaranteed rings. I'm building a built engine to throw a turbo on and take me out of the stock class... or at least I was.

Having owned three turbo charged cars/truck...never again if I can help it. I hate lag, heat, and the extra complexity just to go a little faster. Only vehicles that I think the turbo is ok are in diesels.

Had a Ford truck with a turbo. Turbo let go towing an empty trailer. Volvo S40 was a 4-banger with a turbo. Whole car was garbage. Took it in to trade in on an SUV. One of the employees bought it and the car fell apart, starting with the turbo, at 140k. Lastly, Subaru Forester. Awesome car. Turbo failed under warranty. Replacement failed in 60 miles (defective). Second replacement failed in 51 miles (installation issue). Third one, catastrophic failure at 4000 miles. Dealership bought back car. I kept the dealer loaner Forester (na motor, no turbo).

Only turbo I liked was on an early 80’s Mercedes 300 diesel. Bullet proof car.
