I'm looking for a cheap way to get a larger intake tube. Not worried about carb compliance being Canadian and not in California

for sure. Maybe you can do it with some type of elbow coupler. I now for one the AFE box is shorter then the TRD intake so you may need a longer coupler either way to reach it on one end of the setup

    My shit is all stock.

Yes. The big end is the same I.D.=101mm O.D= 110mm.
It uses the same hump boot to connect to the air box. I didn't even change mine when I made the switch.

The 4r/Fj tube is a full 10mm I.D. larger at the small (throttle body) end than the Tacoma tube and 5.5mm I.D. larger where the meter is inserted.

Awesome! Do you know if the filter boxes mount in about the same spot that the tube swap should work?

Nice! Sounds like it'll totally work and just needs a longer coupler boot like you said. I have an adaptor and 76mm throttle body so that shrinks the gap a bit as well.

Thanks! So really just need that special coupler on the throttle body side which has that take off port. And a 4Runner MAF to fit?

Yes I believe the Tacoma box coupler is the same but I believe they only sell as a set. $30 or so if I recall

Let me clarify. I’m comparing the trd tacoma tube versus the trd 4r/fj tube as pictured.

I don’t have one of the old afe intakes to look at.

I kinda figured. The old tacoma tube and the AFE tube look very, very similar that they it looks like the 4runner tube could be possibly swapped for the AFE

Well AFe DID make the intakes for Toyota for their TRD line up for quite some time. If their intakes look similar then their tubes will definitely be the same, just without the fancy TRD bling bling.

Here’s an AFE on top of that TRD box. It’s a good 1.5–2” shorter. The opening is also lower but that shouldn’t be an issue, might actually make up for some of the shortage.

update: looking at it again I did not factor in where it actually sits in the coupler. Might be 2-3". Nothing a nice silicone one couldn't solve.

I forgot to grab the tube for the AFE but its def longer and skinnier. But not to say it would not work.

    The TRD one is 4.25"

The couplers you get for the TRD intake would work just fine for the AFe version.

Unless there is something here I missed.

I can usually make dang close work. I think I'm most worried about if the offset distance of the intake tube will be dang close or not. I might be willing to gamble on this one and give it a try.

Order it up and play with it. If it won’t work, I’m sure someone here will buy it off ya.
