Ok, I have 2008 trd sport. My heater/ac would only work on hi everyday and sometimes the slower speeds randomly like has happened to many others on here... then last week it just stopped working at all for awhile then worked off and on. Sometimes smack it and it would work.

So I get help here finding the issue or what we think is the issue and I decide to do it myself with very little mechanics experience.
Today, I buy the resistor. Here's the old one and new one.
    20200504_175624.jpg
Im worried they're very different looking but it plugs right in.
Then, Nothing. Can't get it to even accidentally work. Checked some fuses but not all and they look fine. Took the new resistor out and put the old back in even and still nothing...

I'm just trying to figure out my next troubleshooting idea, the connector does look like this so now what should be my next plan?

It would be best to replace that connector - that brownish stuff on the grey body and the wire shows it got really hot at one point. Its probably dirty and sooty inside, and the heat might have deformed the contacts, so there's a chance it would just happen again if you did get it working.

    Hmm.

You can def see some burn on the second wire. Its possible its that and its also possible its your blower. I would try swapping fuses to be sure one isnt blown before digging any deeper. I've seen fuses that are blown and you can't tell by looking at them. Blower motor is the most expensive fix so I would save that for last.

From your pics it looks like that connector got hot. I suspect it needs replaced, and that old resister you had needs replaced anyway. They don't last.

I wouldn't run it too long that. If indeed the connector is janky, you'll have to do it all over again fairly soon.

@JennJenn I replaced mine last year with this kit from Amazon. It comes with the new plug and the resistor and just crimps on. Pretty easy to install and should fix your problem
