What's everyone in here doing for a flea/tick preventative? I've been keeping up with Nexgard treatments since a pup (11 mos. now) and am considering a Seresto collar. Any thoughts?

I've heard a lot of people liking the collars and working well. I cant do it, my boys like to play rough and grab each others necks. They would tear them off in no time.

I use several methods. Why? Because I've read that effectiveness tends to become less effective after a time. K9-Advantix, NexGuard, and other chewables. The collars are something I've stayed away from. Also, outside of flea and tick season, I try not to use anything unless I know I'm heading off to a place might have ticks.

I've stayed away from the collars because they're really only effective around the neck and they're impacted by the weather.

When you're trying something new, be sure to check and see that it does kill fleas and ticks and hopefully, their larva too.

edit: If you have cats, you're probably better off staying away from Advantix because the K9 version can kill a cat-they're especially vulnerable.

For our dogs or ourselves?

I've got my homegirl on a 3 in one heartworm/tick/flea. Zero problems. Rx Simparica.

I used nextgard on my hunting lab until she had a seizure at 6 yrs old. Switched to seresto collar. She gets less ticks with the collar. Not sure that the seizures had anything to do with nexgard but didn’t want to take a chance

I've heard a lot of flea and tick meds can have adverse affects like this. Which is another reason to switch it up and also to avoid using them unless the risk is higher.

About three years ago, I bought Chance for $50 from a guy in Harbor Freight. He's come a long way.

From a skinny 5-mo living on the street to this majestic beast.

That's cool. I told myself I was going to foster until I found him a home because I already had two shelter dogs. We see how that worked out.

    He fit in just fine.

Revolution seems to work well with us...Well her really :)
Apply every couple months or so over the winter if at all. Then ramp up to once a month by summer.

Went out to the garage to grab something, cat met me, said good morning, then bitched me out because his bowl is empty.
Its too early for your crap cat!

Came back in the house and asked cody if he was ready for kibbles and what he wanted to do today.

He just changed positions and said "whatever"

    I love dogs!
    (cats too but...)
