And here's what's killing me. Was off work last week dealing with kidney stones so it would have been nice to have all my gear. Showed up to work this last Monday, 230 am, my kenworth is gone, paperwork gone, schedule shows two other guys running my routes for this week. Look at vacation calendar, DAMMIT! Thought vacation was NEXT WEEK!!!! This sucks. If I was working I'd be occupied and time would go by quicker.

What's the difference between the 714ce you sold and this new 814ce?

The sound between the 2 of them is nite and day.
It's almost like they are cutting the volume on the 714.

Decided to just wait for the full set instead of running to town for 1 string.
    Should be here friday.
Just a little thing but Im stoked.

Nice thing about acoustics, drop a g string and the rest still tune and you can keep on practicing.

    Congrats on the Taylor Unchained!!!

This was my first sweetwater order, a guy named Mitch called and emailed a followup.
On a set of strings? Pretty cool.
    Nice cs.

IMG_20200222_142818.jpg IMG_20170128_132205.jpg A couple warmoth builds from last couple of years. Both have chambered roasted swamp Ash bodies, roasted maple necks. Both also have fishman fluence pickups. Strat is finished in Tru oil gunstock finish. Tele body was done by warmoth, whatever polyurethane they use. Love them both, more playable than any of my Gibsons or fenders.

Hell yeah! Made it in one piece! Really well packaged, one hole, possibly from a fork, but no damage to amp.

since there's some new players. here's some tips i wish i knew when i was starting.

    - play acoustic (or clean). distortion sounds tits, but it masks a lot of mistakes. it's a bad habit to only play distorted, it'll be hard to tell if you're fretting a note right or letting all the notes ring out if you're holding a chord.

    - use a metronome! playing in time is one of the best tools you can develop. start slow. excruciatingly slow until you can play your lick/ riff/ Iron Man/ Smoke on the Water perfectly. then up the speed a few ticks and master it again. keep going until you get your target BPM. muscle memory will serve you well in the long run.

    - pick technique. it's super easy to cheesedick picking and get away with it, but again, it's a habit hole you won't be able to get out later. strict downpicking for rhythm (a la James Hetfield) sounds awesome for chuggy palmmute the audience to death metal, but loses nuance for just about everything else. play a 3-chord progression all downstrokes v. alternating, you'll see what i mean. also alternate picking (v ^ v ^) helps for speed later down the line. start hammering it in while your practicing scales. try to avoid economy picking early on or else you'll just stick with it and it's hard to get out of.

    ex1 (alternate picking)

    G Maj (i think)
    e|-----------------------------------------------5--7--8--|
    b|--------------------------------------5--7--8-----------|
    g|-----------------------------4--5--7--------------------|
    D|--------------------4--5--7-----------------------------|
    A|-----------3--5--7--------------------------------------|
    E|--3--5--7-----------------------------------------------|
    v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^ v ^

    v = downstroke ^ upstroke

    ex2 (economy picking)

    e|-----------------------------------------------5--7--8--|
    b|--------------------------------------5--7--8-----------|
    g|-----------------------------4--5--7--------------------|
    D|--------------------4--5--7-----------------------------|
    A|-----------3--5--7--------------------------------------|
    E|--3--5--7-----------------------------------------------|
    v ^ v v ^ v v ^ v v ^ v v ^ v v ^ v

    v = downstroke ^ upstroke

    - like the problem most of us have with our trucks-- play the damn thing and don't waste money on things that aren't going to make you a better player.

"but Joe, they say these picks will help me shred like Vai!"
shut yo damn ass up and practice your picking! that's how Vai shreds like Vai.

you don't need a wireless system if you're a bedroom warrior. buy a nice cable once and then never think about it until it dies (i like Rattlesnake cables, had the same pair for 5 yrs now). honestly, just skip fancy, gimmicky things until you can justify them. i didn't start buying string cleaner/ conditioner until we were playing shows often enough that i was slowly going broke from restringing so often. didn't even buy hard cases until our first tour. buy things as you need them, or if your lifestyle demands it, that way you should rarely feel buyer's remorse.

that's all i got for now. should probably get back to work. let me know if any of this is helpful and i'll try and think of some other not-so-obvious advice. also anyone else with earth-shattering tips, feel free to chime in. or tell me to fuck off. whatever.

    cheers.
