Grinder and flapper disc’s make it look great. You can do it. Take the time to bevel the connecting edges so you have a V to lay the weld in. Looks better and less polishing.

Nice, yeah I did welding in college, almost 3 years ago and haven't picked up a mig/stick or tig since. I'm sure it's about like riding a bicycle after you knock the rust (or slag haha) off your skills. Except for TIG, that's an art form and a lesson in patience.

Lots of inside welding to get back into it! I've never welded before I started building the new bumper with @Bigdaddy4760. The first day I put a welder in my hand I ran a bunch of ugly practice beads on a flat pc of scrap and then a whole lot of ugly beads on the inside of the bumper. I did manage a few ok ones on the first day. By the time I'm done with all the outside welds I'm hoping to be more consistent and decent. Its been a blast learning and building the bumper though!

Are you guys grinding the inside welds or leaving them? I ask because I have a right angle die grinder and was wondering if it's necessary.

Leave the welds on the inside alone. When you sand/grind the welds smooth on the outside you’ll want that extra support to help prevent it from splitting when you bump something with the bumper.

Believe the plan is to leave them, Out of sight out of mind. Nobody will ever see them once its installed. If they were visible I'd have a whole lot of grinding to do to clean it up. Its ugly in there! First time welding with all the angles and interference made it interesting.

Looks like you have a jig going on your table, or maybe just have something there to prop it upright. Did you tack it on the truck or on the table?

Its just some scrap holding it up. We tacked it together on the truck following the instructions.

What's it say about distance from the grille/fenders for flex room?
Actually, if you have the instructions, albeit for a different gen but should apply the same, in pdf form, you mind sending them my way so I can get in some light reading lol

I dont recall seeing any distance. Before the final piece we have to attach we can adjust some up and down for the 3rd gens. Not sure if it will be the same. Let me see if I have a copy of the instructions here. I may have left them all at the shop with the bumpers.

Found it, 1/4" gap is what they recommend.
