Since no one has posted pictures of the newer microphone above driver’s head in headliner, rather than in overhead console, I’ll post these pictures up. There’s a tab on the left side for the mic to clip into the headliner. No easy bypassing of the microphone amplifier like 2016-2018. Would need an in-line bypass AFAIK.

I'm planning on taking the plastic mini grill cover off of the microphone unit and glueing an aftermarket mic from a Pioneer headunit up there. Thoughts?

Cool! I was wondering what it looked like up in there. I went to pry mine open and it was really snug so didn't want to force it, I notoriously break stuff like that.
Put my aftermarket mic in the old overhead console location.

Did you have to drop the headliner for that overhead console location?

No, you just pull the overhead console down. It pops right out.

Can the plastic cover that clips into the headliner be separated from the microphone itself?

This is a helpful start...I believe I sprayed chemical guys air freshener that got on the mic. Now it sounds like a static tin can to people on the phone. Gonna remove and see if I can clean it

Yes. There are different part numbers depending on the color. I ordered the black cover before, but I can’t find the email with the part number or I would share it.
