3rd Gen DIY maintenance quick reference

I am searching for the OEM part number of the V6 thermostat, manual with tow package. Don't see it listed in the first post so if anyone can share the number (and possibly update the first post) I would appreciate it.

 

Anyone got a good reccomendation for a transfer pump for the diff, t case ect ? Trying to not make a massive mess and waste fluid

 

These are the ones I have on order. I will report back when they arrive and I get a chance to use them.

Hello, when it comes to differentials, gear oils and the like; anyway you try you WILL make a mess. Just accept it.

I bought one of those pumps off Amazon. Not great. Worked ok, no less messy than any other method and A LOT of pumping (~75/qt). Didn't need it for the rear diff and could not use it with the can for the t/c (Unless you dump the can into an empty bottle.... see below

what I ended up using for the t/c and would recommend is pic below: cheap catsup bottle from the dollar store. A foot or so of plastic tubing from the hardware store. The flexible vinyl stuff. A cap of some sorts if you like. Just pour whatever 1/2 qt. At a time into the catsup bottle and squeeze it into the tc or mt or front etc. Whatever. throw the whole smelly mess out when your done or drop it in a zip lock bag.

 

Harbor freight specials for ~$6-8, use a 20% coupon if you want. I buy 2 or 3 and keep them around to use on whatever.

 

I was putting together a Spicer part number pdf for our trucks.... Anyone know why Spicer doesnt call out the front u-joints?

 

How many miles per oil change for the tacoma?

 

10k miles as stated in the manual, but some people change between 3-10k..

 

i do every 5k, regardless... perfect interval to check balljoints, bushings, seals, rotate tires, and check pad life...

 

Guess no one is into changing out their u-joints anytime, soon, LOL

 

Got around to greasing my 2016 OR zerks today. I found a total of 5. Working from back of the drive shaft to the front, 5-6 pumps of mobile 1 red purges the old black factory grease out of the U joints. #4 was a bitch to get to however due to heat shield and other crap in the way and so I rage quit. I’ll save that one for when I can jack the car up on a friends flat driveway so I can maneuver better.

 

Interesting that you bring this up. I plan on doing the same this weekend and I don't want to mess with the regular coupler that is on my grease gun so earlier today I ordered a lock n' lube coupler and needle dispenser to hopefully prevent me from raging. lol

 

Also remove the f-ing heat shield from #4, second from the front and rotate the shaft to 7 o-clock to conquer that bitch.

The lock n lube is nice but it’s just so huge, hope it doesn’t hinder getting into tight spaces. Get a few diff couplers if you can, I hear they make 90 deg ones that are pretty clutch!

 

Thanks for the tips! I purchased a 90 degree along with the lock n' lube coupler to be safe.

 

@Amanelot I think the new part # for the cabin air filter is 88508-04010. Tried to order the # on the list but it was unavailable and no longer sold. Input my 18’ information and it gave me the new #.

 

As far as those gear oil pumps, any of the outboard motor gear case pumps work well. They will screw on nearly all gear oil bottles.

Found out thats the part # for the charcoal cabin air filter. Didnt even know that was a thing.
