Rago Fab Fog Light Brackets

Update: Got everything I needed! Thanks to Rago Fab, they are great people to work with!

Hey guys, I’m looking to get the Rigid pods listed below. I’m aware they would would likely be too bright to run on the road, but I’m getting them mainly for aesthetics and to run the backlight during the day. I’ve done some research on this and I do not believe the Cali Raised fog brackets are compatible with Rigid pods. However, I like that with the Cali Raised brackets you are still able to see the entire front of the Pod. I do not want the “Rigid” logo or the outer shell to be covered up by the bracket. I haven’t been able to tell if the Rigid brackets do this or not. Can anyone confirm or have any other suggestions? Thanks!

It isn't that those pods are too bright for street use, it is that they don't have cut offs to not blind everyone else on the street, unlike Rigid's high output SAE models which have nice sharp cut offs.

 

This is exactly what I need, thanks man! Any ideas on wiring these things? I don’t really wanna spend $90 on Rigid two way switch harness, especially since the switches don’t look like the fit our 2nd gen switch spots

It looks like the pods use crimp connectors on a pigtail to connect the lights. So you'd need attach an H10 connector the the red and black coming out of the back of the pod (

like these) which would then plug into your OEM fog connector. The lights would then power on with the OEM fog switch. For the backlight, you could connect the white wire to a separate powered switch in the cab or tap it into your DRL to have it automatically come on with your DRLs, although that would also make the backlight function as an additional turn signal.

 

Looks like the wiring is identical to Baja Designs dual mode harnesses.

 

You can run the accent light to almost anything. I have mine tied into my "Raptacoma" lights in the grill and to a separate switch in the cab.

This is awesome, thanks for taking the time to explain this for me. However, I think I want to be able to turn the backlight in whenever I choose rather than wired up with something. Would ordering another oem switch allow me to do so with the wiring harness?
Also, just out of curiosity, would wiring them to the dtrl make the backlight blink fast since it’s led, or no since the truck realizes there is a regular bulb still in place?

You wouldn't wire it to replace the DRL, as that will mess with your signals as well and not be acceptable for street use. I was suggesting adding it to the existing DRL circuit, so the DRL runs both. Being an LED backlight, the draw should be very low. You can confirm by finding the power specs. You could also use a relay to run it off the DRL so power draw is unaffected. Running it off the DRL would power the backlights on when the DRL is on, when you turn the headlights on the DRL is turned off and goes to the lower power filament of the DRL/signal bulb, so the backlight would turn off. However when signaling, the high power DRL filament is activated on flash, meaning your backlight on the turn side will also flash.

 

So, let me ask this since you obviously know a good bit about wiring. I want to be able to turn the backlights on whenever I want. So it seems an oem or aftermarket switch in the cab is the way to go for that. However, what if when my headlights are on as well as my in cab switch to have the backlights running, I wanted them to flash with blinker/dtrl? It seems this would be impossible because I would have to wire them to dtrl which would make them run no matter what unless headlights are on.

Basically, I don’t want to wire to dtrl because I want them to run at night. However, I’d like to keep them as another turn signal. Too complicated? Lol

 

Anything is possible but that certainly would be complicated. If you have the switch set to on and want them to flash as a signal, you need to wire a way for them to be shut off. The easiest way would be to wire a normal closed relay in-between your switch and the pod, and tie the relay to your DRL. A normal closed relay completes the circuit and when it receives power it interrupts the circuit. This means when the DRL is active, the power is cut from the pod. That would mean it won't work with your DRLs running, but would work at night with your headlights on, and during the day with your DRL off. With the headlights on and your switched turned to on, when the DRL activates as a signal and the relay would open, turning off the backlight. This would cause them to flash as a signal, but at the opposite time of the signal. That is when the signal is flashing the pod backlight is off, and when the signal is off the pod backlight is on.

If you want to run them at any time the easiest thing to do would be to not bother with the signals.

Here is the link for Rago's site, the makers of the bracket, I'd contact them and ask. The page currently has a 404 error, but rather than listing an item as out of stock in-between production runs, they just take the pages down to prevent orders, resulting in a 404.
