Well I'm bummed. Nitro 4.56 gears in the back are howling after 10k miles, which were said to be the strongest gearset according to ECGS. Looks like long travel dreams aren't happening any time soon.

If you bought from ECGS then they'll cover any issues under warranty.

I didn't have them assemble it. For context, my carrier bearing died, which was causing nasty vibrations. Now after replacing the carrier bearing, I still have the vibration. So I'm not sure if one caused the other to fail or what, but regardless of the fluid, there's something wrong the teeth.

I purchased the gears from ECGS and had them installed by 4wheelparts, since they were offering a deal on the rear locker.

I think if 4WP won't warranty their work and you're within a reasonable distance from Yotamasters, they are knowledgable based on reviews I've heard and watching a lot of setups go out on one of their employees IG feeds.

Ya...about Yotamasters. They did one of my 3rds...in 8k miles it smoked itself. Very little of it was offroading miles at the time I was just getting on a freeway on ramp on my way home from work and it grenaded, . Took it back to them....they did not honor their warranty listed on the original receipt, which was 1 year 10K miles. I was at 7 months and 8k miles on the 3rd. So just be aware, a bad setup can be done anywhere.

There you go. Never worked with them so @Airdog has better info on this imo.

FWIW mailing a diff is something I've done a few times and really not hard (if you can have your truck down). @ZUK does great work and worth sending a yota diff to him is totally worth it imo.

Here's everything he sent me for my diff when rebuilding it and adding a locker.

I am getting the Camburg long travel kit for my 01 4WD Tacoma and am wondering if I can use the remanufactured Tundra axles from Total Chaos?

I’m fairly confident you can. 1st gens were able to use tundra axles for LT.

Yeah I’m going to call the 4wp tomorrow and see if they’ll do anything for me. Cuz it shouldn’t have failed after 10k miles, and I think it’s what caused my carrier bearing to fail in the first place. If they won’t touch it, I’m thinking I’m just going to send it off to ECGS.

I think they'll mail you one if you wanted to trade yours in - what kind of locker's in yours?

I’ve got an ARB in it, probably will just have it rebuilt.

Yea, I had them do my gears years ago when I lived in So Cal. Whoever worked on my front Diff Scratched the shit out of my front diff clamshell where the passenger CV goes into it. I had a leaking seal on the passenger side, took my passenger axle out, and noticed a huge gouge missing from the housing (on the sealing surface). This gouge is right where the CV seal rests. I had to use some High Temp RTV around my seal before I shoved it in. Took a couple tries to get it not to leak.

When I had my gears done, I had only 50,000 mi on the truck. I knew I couldn't have messed up the diff seal since it was basically brand new and I hadn't touched the front diff before.

Not sure if they switched my front diff clamshell with someone elses when I dropped off the truck to get the gears done.

We spec OEM Toyota Tundra 00-06 complete axle assemblies from a dealership, they don't need to be modified or need different boots, etc. They go right on with our kit and work perfect. You don't want to use aftermarket (non-Toyota) stock replacements as many don't get the same degrees of movement as the OEM parts (and can bind) and they are not as strong or last as long since they use cheaper lower quality materials, boots, etc. and sometimes have smaller CV balls & cages. Not sure what TC is using as cores or who they're getting them from. They are not new, they are remanufactured for $1,029/set. You can get brand new ones from a Toyota dealership for $850/set.

Just get the right ones so you don't have issues and I don't have to reply with a "I told you so" lol.
