I upgraded to a northstar 24f and I think replenishing with a trickle charger overnight once a year should be enough for my application

I've noticed this too....the cynic in me has to wonder if it's a marketing thing.....upsell the AGM knowing that it might not last as long as it should, but still be better than the lead acid that people think they're getting their money's worth?

AGM is fine, but I would get a smart charger and hook it up periodically (once a month or so), to keep it properly topped off.

CTEK and NOCO are two brands that come to mind, will run you an additional ~$100.

    I got a nice US made AGM from Walmart $150. Has a 5 year replacement(not pro rated)warranty.

I had a Enrsys AGM in my Land cruiser, it died at 7 years, and cost $270.

I’m going to Costco, and since I need a new one I’ll get what the have available. I don’t tow anything either.

    Edit: Costco had a 24F for $89, and a 27F for $93

Ovtune's VF Tuner, now, allows you to increase the voltage from your alternator.
    That's awesome.

You had me at Minnesota , i know how harsh the winter is up there. You had the money to buy a Pro model. Why not just buy the better AGM x2 battery ?

that's exactly the question haha....is the AGM battery actually better for the money. For my current needs, looks like it isn't. Don't forget, I've got a jump pack too, so even though the OEM batteries are shit, I've never been left for dead.

I did buy the Pro, but I don't want to spend an extra $200 if I don't have to.

Up in western Canada we get even crazier winters than Minnesota by a lot...try negative 40...Celsius or Fahrenheit...they're the same, my Optima Red Top starts my vehicles every time (I'm not payed by them to say this, I only wish they were still US made, now they are made in Mexico). Got Optima's in 5 cars and Blue Top in our boat.

optima’s are junk. You can get an Odessey or X2 (Northstar) for nearly the same price and have much better performance.

Dont get Costco. They are bottom of the barrel batteries from Interstate. Get actual Interstate batteries (Firestone, Tire Kingdom, Tire plus, JiffyLube)

Best bang for your buck would be the MTP-27F. Big CCA, huge reserve capacity, and for only around $150.

Always used deka replacement batteries, and got at least 10 years from them.

Which daka did you go with. I’m leaning towards them too. Mostly I want something that can handle the vibrations better.
