I missed that one. Besides the flight plan I saw was still a ways away from me. Friday is supposed to be Thunderbirds and Blue Angels and the plan takes them right over my house.

FYI...Weasels were usually F-4Gs and wore a WW on the tail. RF-4s were generally C models with camera systems where the front cannon would be on a D model. I know this because my first duty station was Bergstrom AFB here in Austin...and it was all RF-4Cs. 100% mission effectiveness in Desert Storm...and they all started breaking when they came home. Our birds had a BA on the tail - those look like the "High Rollers" of the Nevada ANG.

Nothing sounds like an F-4. *sniff* I miss the daily 4-ship CAP (counter air patrol) that would regularly carve up the city, then line up for landing at the end of the day.

I still get a semi thinking about F-4s. By far the best looking fighter we ever had, and proof that with enough thrust - ANYTHING will fly.

 

I was stationed at MCAS El Toro from 1982-84 and had six squadrons of F4 and RF4 Phantoms . And like you I miss these fighter jets , they had a unique sound and the familiar black smoke trail

 

I now want Hollywood to make a movie about Operation BOLO.

The hardest part would be casting Robin Olds.

I’ve heard that where I work will probably be getting back to it in July....maybe August. I guess it looks like I’m gonna be practicing this retirement thing for a bit longer. I already can tell, I am going to have absolutely no problem with it!

That’s good news, I get upgraded every 2 years.

 

I had bifocals and absolutely hated them , now have transition lens and much easier on the eyes
