Point taken, however... I HAVE driven a Sport and THAT was my observation... which is quite different from Mr. fronty lockers will whip A-TRAC (but has never driven A-TRAC) statements... yes? :D;)

You started this trend when you started this thread. When the thread title suggests that anyone who doesn't like atrac must not know what they are talking about, you are asking...no, begging for conflict. If you weren't such an elitist ass, and had named the thread something like, "Everything You Ever Wanted to Know About A-TRAC," you wouldn't have gotten the same response. By taking the stance you did right off the bat, you doomed this thread to what it has become. On the other hand, if your goal was post count, views, and irrational discourse then I have to tip my hat to you. Well played sir.

Nope, not my game plan... It may have been a way to bring out the ignorance of some who like to speak on a subject that they don't have good information on, based on ideas they have. However, I just wanted to show others what they have to look forward to in a new Off Road 4WD Tacoma.

It was intended to create dialog, so we could exchange the information in order to educate those who don't know that much about A-TRAC.

What we have seen, is the most vocal in this thread are either:
    1) Those that have used A-TRAC and found it works great.
    2) Those that have never used A-TRAC and spend time talking about their after-market front lockers.

I also see new posts pop up which shows that not everyone checks to see if the information is out there, because they ask the same things... so there is a need to educate even the non-Off Road Tacoma drivers about what Toyota has given us.

I moded 1999 Taco so much it had turned to Land Cruiser
ATRAC comes only with TRD unless you talking about Auto-fake-LSD, then I can tell you that more then anything, whats irritates me most is the fact that I can not buy truck with out traction control. Tacoma was pretty much the last truck that came with out it. Since 2009 no longer you can buy a truck in US with out that idiotic system installed.

As whippersnapper pointed out ATRAC is not really for snow and ice. It never was since Bosch developed long long time ago because it always needs atleast one tire with good traction. Its how this system works, its BY DESIGN. Bosch never claimed and Toyota does not claim it. I find it funny that you just discovered system that many cars had for ages.
ATRAC vs Lockers Its not only different but its a system that makes this truck California truck in addition to crappy paint job I feel like we in NorthEast and up North getting ripped off by Toyota. Not everybody lives in California and I dont need anybody who drives on dry rocks to tell me how So Common system not capable handling 5 degrees ice grade will handle NorthEasters
Ever watch ATRAC trying to go up the iced hill. Its like watching 4 drunken leprechauns trying to do synchronized ballroom dancing.

Again your experience with that system on dry rocks for me is completely useless. The only thing dry here is asphalt on shopping malls parking's, everything else here is slippery as s...t. This aint California. You probably not getting frame rust either.

/RANT and I promise not to post in this thread again:rolleyes:

I think statements like this are made because the limited slip part of the system isn't in the differential, it is in the ECU and braking system. There might not be as much scrutiny if it were called a LSS (limited slip system) or something like that instead of an automatic limited slip differential.

The only wheeling I've seen people do with their A-Trac is in sand (prerunners can do that) and gravel/dirt roads. If you guys actually wheeled your trucks you'd understand that lockers are better in every way. You all complain that the guys with lockers haven't driven the with A-Trac but, you haven't driven with lockers. I've driven both and once it gets slightly slippery the A-Trac fails. I agree it's great in the dry stuff but that's where it stops (wheeling wise).

Yeah I agree F/R lockers=better than atrac, but atrac=pretty damn good stock option BUT still curious about how atrac would change, if any, with 3-6in lift and 33s-35s. Like diff./brake system strain n such.....THAT is the question in my head. ANY ONE, ANY ONE?????

    WHOOPI whats your VIEW?:D
