Mine is intermittent, but i believe this is the problem as well, belt looks new. It's getting pretty old when it does squeal though

I've been "lightly" pressure washing under the hood for years. Never had an issue.

Quickly scanned through this. Everytime I run through the water mine squeaks real bad. It goes away in a few days. Problem solved.

Never use any kind of belt dressing, I would rinse it with water and give it some time,( running and driving) if the squeal comes back then you'll have to replace the belt.

Haha, some of you guys think that you are so smart, yet can not spell correctly.

Surprised you didnt mention that 1st gen is the best gen again. You are like one of those manual transmission guys that just have to let you know, quite sad.

Keep washing your engine and enjoy driving best gen of tacomas. Maybe learn how to spell a bit.

I had a minor squeak for a few months and then did some muddy off roading with several deep water crossings. The squealing noise after that trip became unbearable and probably woke up all of my neighbors.

I brought it to the dealer and they said the belt was glazed and replaced it under warranty. I have not had any squealing issues since the belt was replaced. I initially thought when the squealing was minor that it was an idler pulley or even possibly the high pressure fuel pump chirp that some people experience, but apparently it was just the belt.

    Serpentine belts tend to squeak.
You don't adjust them, they have a tensioner that self adjusts.
Don't use belt dressing or anything else on the belt. They are meant to be run dry and once you spray that stuff, it contaminates all the contact surfaces. If you have a squeak, you can narrow down the source by using a spray bottle with water on the contact side of the belt before it enters the pulley. If it quiets that pulley, you know what side of the belt and/or which pulley is problematic. I would be careful of getting simple green or any cleaner on the belt because they are temperamental and tend to squeak when they get anything on them. Sometimes it's contamination, sometimes a scuff, sometimes a worn idler pulley or tensioner. It can be lots of things and tracking it down can be a little tough.
I would be careful about getting water in the alternator because you can short it. I clear mine with compressed air after a clean up. For that same reason I wouldn't wash a running engine. They always have power running to them and I have seen a few that have been cooked by contamination.

You should be able to take the 19 in for a warranty repair if you play dumb about the cause. "It's a friggen mystery..." If you hit it with belt dressing though, they will know as it leaves a sticky residue.

These 3rd gen taco's have a lot of elec. crap on those engines. They are not made to get watered down. When we splash around in the mud and reg stuff. It will be ok,but when you hose it down to clean good luck. I don't wash my engine if it gets dirty I wipe it down as best as I can.
Had a 2nd Gen taco that I washed lightly with the engine on couple years back, that bit me in the butt. Problem after problem it gave me after that. All the problems were electrical engine components.

Truck better be super clean with no traces of mud, they like to blame anything they can on off-roading.

Just so we're clear for the record:

bad spelling = "you suck and your comment is therefore invalid"

    bad punctuation = "nice try"

    cool.

At the end of the day, 3rd gen engines either can't handle being washed (which seems like that would be a pretty serious design flaw), or you're doing it wrong.

but yeah, I kant spelz, so OMG I suck.

Sigh... you are still not done bud?

You came to 3rd gen section, wanted to be a dick and tell me 3rd gen taco reliability sucks, your truck is the best and i do not know how to wash my engine. Sounds like a douche right?

Then you proceeded to tell me that you have washed the engine bay so many times and was perfectly fine, except for your accord. Meaning i do not know what i am doing and you do, thus saying you are smarter. But you cant even spell such simple words. Why do you even bother man? If you wanna be a dick, go be a dick somewhere else. You are coming to 3rd gen section and telling me 1st gen is best gen, haha c'mon man. You sound like a 12 year old, grow up bud.

Dont be a dick to others and everything will be fine. But its ok, you will learn one day.

Edit: Clearly you have troubles reading also, as i never said i tried to wash my 3.5L.

I guess you aren't done either, eh?

First off, calm the hell down, that bit about "1st gen best gen was a joke." There are a good deal of us who like to play up the generation rivalry, and tease each other. Don't take yourself so goddamn seriously, m'kay? We'd all still go wheeling together, or help each other out of a bind. I have my doubts about you tho.

We make fun of 3rd gen Pro badging and plastic shit, you make fun of 1st gen balljoints and the god-awful clock placement. But we all like Toyotas, which is cool.

My accord had a broken part, once I fixed the broken thing, I could spray down the engine to my heart's content with zero issues. The spray of water didn't *cause* the issue like it seems to from your description.

then what the hell are you talking about here?

So I guess technically you never said "3.5L" but neither did I.

Also, since you seem to like pointing out spelling errors, "every time" is 2 words, and "I" is capitalized. Maybe don't throw rocks from that glass house of yours, eh?
